Digital Content Editor 

Grant Funded, Hybrid 40% Onsite Requirement

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a collaborative team player to support and implement content strategies for pediatrician audiences including writing, editing and managing digital content for AAP.org and other digital platforms. This role will coordinate and manage digital content development activities for various grants and other programs, as well as collaborate with staff, federal partners, and programmatic partners to support implementation of grant activities related to digital content development.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, AAP.org, some duties include:

  1. Write, edit and review new and updated digital content for pediatrician audiences published on AAP.org, AAP News, and other digital platforms. Proofread and copy edit content to ensure it adheres to website/platform style guidelines.
  2. Work with the AAP.org Managing Editor and/or dedicated technical reviewers, staff, and external partners on developing and managing new and revised content to support the editorial plan for AAP digital platforms and to meet the goals, objectives, and deliverables for campaigns, grants, or sponsorships. 
  3. Solicit feedback and participation in content development and revisions from AAP committees, councils, sections, and/or staff teams to ensure content remains fresh. 
  4. Create editorial content for AAP News, AAP.org, and other member-facing platforms to meet the information needs of early-career AAP members. 
  5. Identify technical reviewers, route materials, and incorporate changes into digital content drafts for new and revised content as directed.
  6. Support the maintenance of site maps, editorial calendars, image galleries, workflows and other lists and databases necessary for the on-going functionality of the website.
  7. Monitor grant-related site/platform traffic and performance using appropriate analytics and tools and generate reports as needed on content reach and impact.
  8. Respond to and troubleshoot website issues and work with website Managing Editor to solve technical issues in displaying content.
  9. Attend team meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned. 
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications needed:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in English, digital media, communications, journalism, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. 
  2. At least three years’ related experience in digital content development and management required, including writing, editing, and proofreading, preferably with an emphasis on health information or medical terminology. Experience working with authors and/or medical professionals, website publishing processes and technologies, as well as digital communications required.    
  3. Excellent organizational, verbal/written communication, project management, and proofreading skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with content management systems (CMS), Search Engine Optimization principles, basic knowledge of Google Analytics, web applications, internet technology, document collaboration sites (eg, SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, pay close attention to detail, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Some travel and evening/weekend work required.

 

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $68,385.77 - $72,185.10. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
