BASIC FUNCTION:


Direct the AAP’s Pediatric Mental Health Education Center to expand the capacity of pediatricians and care systems to address the mental health needs of our nation's children and teens. Collaborate and partner with pediatricians and community partners to integrate mental health support into their practices and communities.  


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.    Oversee the development and implementation of a resource inventory and needs assessment to identify gaps in existing resources required to provide pediatricians with the competency and capacity to address healthy mental and emotional development in primary care and subspecialty care settings.

2.    Develop a multi-modal learning portfolio organized by modality, depth of content, and time required. Educational opportunities will include knowledge-sharing (asynchronous and live courses), skills acquisition, and longitudinal learning collaboratives. 

3.    Direct the readiness assessments for pediatricians, subspecialists, and clinicians to determine which opportunities best meet their interest/capacity.

4.    Develop a portfolio of options to facilitate education in pediatric mental health. 

5.    Strategically grow continuing medical mental health education priorities to focus on continuous professional development and lifelong learning, including quality improvement in health care.

6.    Develop a sustainable business plan to support growth of the mental health education center.

7.    Support the CMO and Medical Director in creating and offering educational curricula and resources on various topics including but not limited to: integrating mental health care services into pediatric primary and subspecialty care; healthy mental and emotional development, relational health, and social drivers of health; promotion, prevention and assessment of social-emotional and mental health in infancy and early childhood; promotion and assessment of relational health and resilience skills; developmental and health impacts of trauma; guidance on effective screening and surveillance tools; universal surveillance, screening, identification of trauma exposure, and provision of strengths-based, trauma-informed, family-centered care.

8.    Create and offer a range of educational courses, including but not limited to real-time, live courses: asynchronous online courses; skill-based mini workshops with simulation; and learning collaboratives.

9.    Direct development of objective measures to understand the impact of education center through comprehensive, mixed-methods evaluation and performance measurement plan assess and evaluate outreach and impact. 

10.    Create mechanisms to track the success of systems-change efforts over time.

11.    Direct measurement of practice-level, community-level, and systems-level processes acquired through the mental health educational center that can scale up for long-term transformation.

12.    Assess and report on multicultural competence among pediatricians and pediatric office staff to understand and address diverse patient and family populations' unique needs in promoting healthy mental and emotional development and relational health. 

13.    Partner with the Mental Health Education Center Medical Director to support launch and strategic direction of the Center.

14.    Provide primary staff support to the Mental Health Advisory Committee. 

15.    Work with the internal and external partners to identify and secure sponsorship and create funding opportunities.

16.    Direct the administrative, technical, and customer support for child mental health skills training programs.

17.    Ensure that all live programming activities are in full compliance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Essentials and with standards for, Continuing Education Coordinating, and the American Psychiatric Association, when appropriate.

18.    Collaborate with relevant AAP staff to develop communication, educational, and marketing materials. 

19.    Lead and mentor assigned staff and encourage ongoing professional development and a work environment that embraces inclusiveness. Ensure staff operate in a fiscally prudent manner, maintain confidentiality, operate with the highest ethical standards, and provide excellent service to members and volunteers.

20.    Negotiate and oversee the development, compliance, and revision of all contracts with partnering organizations, publishers, consultants, and vendors.

21.    Manage the human and financial resources to achieve organizational objectives and results; planning, monitoring and reporting to ensure optimal performance of all programs and initiatives including accountability for the timely, correct and efficient use of financial resources.

22.    Oversee, direct and manage assigned grants and contracts and ensure execution in compliance with funder’s expectations. 

23.    Represent the AAP, as and when requested, at external policy, coordination, scientific or other international meetings.

24.    Performs all other duties as assigned.


   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:


    Bachelor’s degree in adult education, public health, or related discipline. 

    Minimum 6 years’ management experience which demonstrates successful inter-professional collaboration, program development, evaluation, and improvements in the education of pediatric medical health professionals. Extensive knowledge of CME accreditation process and organizations. 

    Experience in educational needs assessment, evaluation and outcomes measurement, and in securing funding to support new and existing programs. 

    Successful experience in the administration and leadership of educational programs.

    Strong knowledge and familiarity with pediatric mental health educational application of new technologies.

    Demonstrated experience with leading a group process for program development.

    Demonstrated ability to achieve quality improvement in education and integrate new and emerging technologies. 

    Experience with strategic planning and implementation, grant development/management, and contract administration.

    Demonstrated experience as an effective liaison between or among various groups, including the ability to engage in successful negotiation, collaboration, and conflict resolution.

    Strategic and innovative thinker with the ability to solve problems and execute initiatives.

    Demonstrated knowledge and experience in budgeting and expense control.

    Effective listening, written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentations.

    Proven ability to collaborate with and lead a high functioning team, as well as promoting and maintaining a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment, with a commitment to diversity.

    Positive outlook, high personal standard of excellence and ethics, and ability to build trust and interact with all organizational levels. 

    Weekend work and frequent travel, and the ability to respond quickly to urgent issues outside core business hours.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    MEd, MPH, or MBA

    Familiarity with AAP CME and GME activities and processes.

Hybrid work environment of 40% of work time in the office per month.
