Program Manager, AAP Pediatric Mental Health Education Center

Director, AAP Pediatric Mental Health Education Center


BASIC FUNCTIONS:


Manage activities of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Pediatric Mental Health Education Center to expand the capacity of pediatricians and care systems to address the mental health needs of our nation's children and teens. Collaborate and partner with pediatricians and community partners to integrate mental health support into their practices and communities. Assist with other projects as assigned.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Manage the AAP Pediatric Mental Health Education Center. Support leadership to ensure activities are aligned with the vision for the initiative. Leverage funds to facilitate dissemination and implementation of training and technical assistance resources intended to bolster healthcare professionals' capacity to address mental health needs of children, youth and families.

2. Assist with the development and implementation of a resource inventory and needs assessment to identify gaps in existing resources required to provide pediatricians with the competency and capacity to address healthy mental and emotional development in primary care and subspecialty care setting.

3. Assist with the development of a multi-modal learning portfolio organized by modality, depth of content, and time required. Educational opportunities will include knowledge-sharing (asynchronous and live courses), skills acquisition, and longitudinal learning collaboratives.

4. Manage the readiness assessments for pediatricians, subspecialists, and clinicians to determine which opportunities best meet their interest/capacity.

5. Assist in the creating and offering educational curricula and resources on various topics including but not limited to: integrating mental health care services into pediatric primary and subspecialty care; healthy mental and emotional development, relational health, and social drivers of health; promotion, prevention and assessment of social-emotional and mental health in infancy and early childhood; promotion and assessment of relational health and resilience skills; developmental and health impacts of trauma; guidance on effective screening and surveillance tools; universal surveillance, screening, identification of trauma exposure, and provision of strengths-based, trauma-informed, family-centered care.

6. Manage the creation of educational courses, including but not limited to real-time, live courses: asynchronous online courses; skill-based mini workshops with simulation; and learning collaboratives.

7. Manage assigned mental health education center programs, supporting program development and implementation, partner/participant engagement, and management of related project advisory teams.

8. Manage the data and tracking for education projects in compliance with Maintenance of Certification, Continuing Medical Education, and Institutional Review Board requirements and per the direction of the project faculty and staff team.

9. Plan and execute regular in-person and virtual meetings of project staff and advisory teams for assigned projects as needed, including developing and disseminating agenda materials.

10. Prepare presentations and publications for participants and project leaders highlighting achievements, success stories, and future directions for assigned projects.

11. Collaborate with project evaluator(s) to design and implement evaluation plans, including formative and summative qualitative and quantitative data collection.

12. Manage assigned project budgets and monitor expenses and variances. Develop regular funding reports for project director.

13. Prepare, solicit, review, and submit required grant progress reports in accordance with funder requirements. Serve as project contact person with grant agencies and facilitate requests from funders.

14. Respond to inquiries and correspondence from program collaborators, AAP members and other physicians, allied health professionals, governmental agencies, higher education institutions and other organizations regarding program activities.

15. Support the acquisition of additional funding where needed to support AAP activities and programs in assigned content areas. Partner with Development staff to identify and engage potential funders; monitor federal funding opportunities; and manage the development of grant proposals, taking a leadership role in writing proposal content.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:


Bachelor's degree with a concentration in education, public health, child development or related discipline required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master's degree preferred.


EXPERIENCE:


At least two years' related experience in public health program coordination/management required, including educational program development and/or implementation; program evaluation, and budget management, preferably in a non-profit association, community-based, or higher education setting. Experience in healthcare and public health approaches to addressing the social determinants of health; health communications, quality improvement and/or CME requirements; project management, grants management/writing; and coordination of multi-sector initiatives and public health partnerships highly desirable.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:


Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication, diplomacy, and organizational skills required. Must be outcomes-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, lead collaborative efforts across multiple organizations, adapt well to change, assimilate information for a variety of target audiences, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-orientated work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; familiarity with web maintenance software (eg, SharePoint), collaboration site platforms (eg, SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams, Zoom) preferred. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.


A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $90,207.61 - $95,219.28. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
