Overview
AdCare Rhode Island is a 59-bed inpatient alcohol and drug treatment center with a mission of providing transformational recovery experiences to individuals struggling with substance dependence.
The state-of-the-art facility is nestled on 22 acres of peaceful New England woodland in historic North Kingstown. The campus is conveniently located just minutes away from both the airport and downtown Providence. AdCare RI is also located close to pristine beaches and recreational areas. The newly renovated facility is outfitted with semi-private rooms with baths, fitness center, basketball court, and many other amenities.
Responsibilities
Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides direct patient care to clients receiving detoxification, crisis stabilization services and acute residential services under the supervision of the Medical Director. Provides on call coverage to the nursing staff as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Works from broad policies and protocols. Refers to Medical Director for medical supervision. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing on patient care issues.
- Makes clinical decisions that are restricted by only sound clinical knowledge; makes administrative decisions based on the AdCare Rhode Island’s policies.
- Reviews histories and conducts physical assessments of patients admitted for detoxification
- Manages comorbid medical illnesses of patients
- Manages acute medical illnesses that may occur during the patient’s treatment
- Provides on call coverage to the nursing staff regarding medical issues/concerns
- Assists the admission staff in determining appropriateness of admission secondary to medical conditions/status
- Provides care to patients in a manner that incorporates the principles of patient satisfaction and cost effective delivery of care.
- Documents care given to patients in a timely, legible manner
- Participates in the development and evaluation of practice guidelines along with the medical director.
- Participates in quality and process improvement activities to improve patient care and safety
- Participates in committees as assigned
- Must pass background check / OIG / GSA and pre-employment drug screen. If in personal recovery, a minimum of three years continuous abstinence required.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- 1 to 3 years of related work experience; substance abuse experience preferred, psychiatric care valued.
- Valid prescriptive authority from both the RI DPH and Federal DEA. CPR. Valued: Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARNM).

- Ability to sit, use hands and fingers, talk or hear, and smell continually. Ability to stand, walk and reach frequently. Ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally.
- Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Close vision required to see computer monitor, read documents, and operate copy and fax machine. Distance vision required to drive an automobile, if driving is a requirement of the job.
- Work environment is indoors and climate controlled. Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
- Moderate noise levels as found in a business office with computer printers, households with TVs and dishwashers, and driving light traffic.
