- The role is a part of the Flight Planning Support (FPS) team within the Flight Dispatch Technical group located at the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) located close to the DFW airport.
- The Specialist – Flight Planning Support (FPS) provides 24-hour flight planning, NOTAM and navigation database support services for American and Envoy Airlines. Is a member of a team of PAFCA represented operations specialists.
- FPS is currently transitioning from the legacy FOS flight planning to a new state of the art system. We need people who embrace change and love to be challenged.

Please contact Accommodations@aa.com should you wish to request an accommodation.Provide 24-hour flight planning support to flight dispatchersCreate daily optimized routes by using route planning technologyCreate and maintain company database routes as procedures changeCreate on-request routes to avoid enroute hazardsDevelop routes for nonstandard operations including emergency diversions, maintenance, and ferry and charter flightsReview and edit Notice to Airmen (NOTAMs) and adjust the company database to reflect those NOTAMsTroubleshoot issues related to route planning and flight plan filingCommunicate with various domestic and international ATC agencies with regards to flight plan rejections or route compatibility issuesMaintain company database records related to flight planning including routes, airways, Standard Instrument Departure (SID), Standard Terminal Arrival Procedure (STAR), Air Traffic Control (ATC) filing addresses, airports, and blocking dataBuild records for any new cities or markets into which the company expandsMonitor for special use airspace (SUA) activity via appropriate automation applicationSecure and maintain overflight permits for scheduled and non-scheduled flightsMaintain the database for daily departure fix balancingTest and evaluate new flight planning systems and other softwareUpdate navigational databases for each Aeronautical Information Regulation and Control (AIRAC) cycleGeneral FunctionsReport to position on time, as scheduled, and at assigned station or location, including mandatory overtime requirements, varying shifts, weekends, and holidaysAdhere to company scheduling policies (e.g., maximum hours one can work)Adhere to government regulations (e.g., DOT, FAA, TSA) including FAA Operations SpecificationsAdhere to company policies, procedures, and performance standardsPerform all functions in accordance with safety procedures and policiesFulfill all training requirementsAll you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
3 years of recent experience working in a flight operations environment for an air carrier, large corporate or military entity or directly supporting an operational databasePreferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Associate's degree or higher in Science, Aviation or Computer Science or equivalent experienceExperience with database technologiesKnowledge of flight planning or advanced navigation techniquesFamiliarity with EUROCONTROL IFPS, CFMU, and RADExperience with ICAO NOTAM and government aeronautical publicationsA second languageSkills, Licenses & Certifications
Current licensed airman with FAA Flight Dispatcher, Pilot, Navigator or Air Traffic Control license or military equivalentFPS is looking for self-motivated individuals with strong analytical skills and attention to detailWhat you'll get
