Compounding Manager
Role Summary
The Compounding Manager oversees the overall management, direction, and coordination of the Compounding Department. This role ensures the manufacturing of top-quality products in the most efficient, cost-effective, and safest way possible. Additionally, the Compounding Manager serves as a liaison between the R&D and Manufacturing departments, facilitating the improvement and development of both existing and new formulas and processes.

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.
- Manage the workforce and equipment to meet customer requirements and blending schedule requirements in quality and quantity.
- Manage personnel development and Company performance review programs according to Company guidelines. Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge employees, and resolve employee issues and grievances.
- Maintains a safe work environment & works directly with the EHS management team.
- Enforce Hazardous Material Handling Procedures and oversee initial and annual training
- Provide leadership using Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools to drive continuous improvements of manufacturing the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, highest quality, according to schedule, and with the highest safety.
- Oversee activities related to the cost and efficiency of manufacturing products.
- Develop department budget and approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and human resources according to Company guidelines.
- Work with R&D in new product development and to improve manufacturing processes for existing products.
- Apply engineering practices to continually upgrade the quality, capacity, and efficiency of the Compounding Department. Includes working with Corporate Engineering to assist in major equipment design and installation.
- Coordinate and develop personnel safety, welfare, and training programs.
- Work with customers and our team to develop, execute, and maintain a daily blending schedule.
- Manage the workforce and equipment to meet customer requirements and blend schedule requirements in quality and quantity.
- Perform root cause analysis and provide corrective actions on quality-related issues due to compounding failures.
- Document and maintain compounding processes, enabling analysis for ongoing process improvements.
- Cultivate an educated, well-trained, and motivated staff.
- Participate in work-related seminars and classes to foster personal and professional growth

- Maintain Blend First Pass Yield of 98% or higher.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related field
- Equivalent progressive work experience in CPG manufacturing management is eligible based on the ability to demonstrate strong topic competency and having the other listed necessary skills.
- Certificates or greater in Lean Manufacturing, Process Management, or Leadership preferred.
Experience:
- 5 - 8 years of related experience in a CPG contract manufacturing environment.
- Experience in safety, regulated production/GMP, planning, logistics, quality, and engineering.
- Knows how liquid blending and filling occur in health and beauty or household production industries.
- Experience leading diverse multi-person teams with emphasis on creating strong rapport.
- Knowledge related to blending equipment, valves, piping, pumps, and processing equipment is required.
- Practiced knowledge having to do with employment rules, policies, and regulations.
- Experience collaborating and partnering with Staffing Agencies for workforce resources.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing practices: process management and improvement, inventory control, quality standards, and measurements.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze production data to best plan for production output through workforce placement and automation resources.
- Must have excellent reasonable judgement, a common sense approach to business and people.
- Proven conflict resolution skills, emotional intelligence, and attitude to retain workforce.
- Superior problem-solving mindset using root cause assessment and positive attitude reasoning.
- Must work well under pressure, particularly with work and resource re-prioritization, and not lose sight of due dates.
- Effectively interact with all levels of business partners, internal & external.
- Must be flexible in hours to support Manufacturing on all 3 shifts at three manufacturing sites.
Technology/Software:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, very strong Excel skills.
- Experience with an MRP/ERP system in a manufacturing environment. Microsoft Navision experience, a plus.
Communication:
- Must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), including relating to English as a second language workforce; bilingual helpful with English fluency expected.
- Ability to convey compelling reasoning to a diverse audience in multiple formats, including reports, visuals
- Comfortable addressing questions, concerns and sense of urgency with on-demand requests that may originate from internal and external audiences.
