Responsibilities

Provides leadership in managing and implementing the clinical component of a comprehensive registered nurse program in support of University, campus, and / or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and / or licensure, internal consistency, and to support the achievement of graduate outcomes that meet workplace and placement expectations. Responsible for integrating and harmonizing clinical and simulation with didactic experiences in support of helping students achieve exceptional outcomes, not the least of which is NCLEX success. Responsible for oversight of clinical faculty, student placements, and clinical partnerships for the Nursing program. Oversees, supervises and manages the Manager of Clinical Operations, Manager of Clinical Faculty, Manager of Clinical Relations, and the Simulation Manager while serving as a mentor and facilitator for faculty and students assigned to clinical sites. Supports the campus clinical team by conducting clinical site visits to enable an environment, which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility. Ensures that the clinical experience is aligned with associated didactic content and achieves the course learning outcomes. Collaborates with peers serving in the same capacity at other campuses to ensure consistency of approach between all locations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the campus clinical component of the BSN program.
  • Collects evaluation feedback from students, staff and clinical sites.
  • Ensure that clinical partner satisfaction ratings are maintained or improved over time.
  • Ensure student clinical experience satisfaction ratings maintained or improved over time.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical faculty observations and provide appropriate feedback or intervention in accordance with approved schedule.
  • Oversight of all student and faculty clinical schedule / assignments processes.
  • Oversight of the MCO process for students’ clinical orientation to include clinical packets; health and safety requirements.
  • Oversight of accurate / timely student clinical grids submission to clinical partners.
  • Responsible for the oversight of student clinical placements with identified facilities.
  • Oversight of process for Manager of Clinical Operations attestation forms for student placements.
  • Develops a process with the Manager Clinical Operations to ensure clinical placement requests are completed in an accurate and timely manner, either online or manually and confirmed.
  • Ascertains projections placements, staffing, and student assignments for upcoming terms. Supports MCR lead development of sites to meet current and future placement needs.
  • Advises the Campus Director of Nursing of the general effectiveness of the clinical education portion of the program.
  • Provides follow-up and resolution plan to Campus Director of Nursing for issues identified with students and faculty in the clinical setting.
  • Collaborates with the Campus Associate Director of Nursing, Academics in support of full time faculty assigned to a clinical assignment.
  • Oversight of the Managers of Clinical Faculty process for orientation to new faculty regarding clinical facilities.
  • Support Manager of Clinical Operations / Faculty in the assigning of faculty and students to clinical facilities.
  • Supports the Managers of Clinical Faculty in ensuring that clinical faculty provides periodic feedback of clinical performance immediately after observation event and / or of overall student performance at midterm and end of semester
  • Tracks and presents summary of clinical faculty evaluation data.
  • Ensures that the Managers of Clinical faculty have a plan for all new adjunct clinical faculty to receive an onboarding plan and orientation as well as receiving the designated number of site visits and evaluations.
  • Ensures that the MCF has processes in place for lead faculty to bridge theory and clinical education.
  • Supports Manager of Clinical Faculty to find back up coverage for faculty absences / vacation.
  • Support Simulation Manger with scheduling and staffing for Simulation / Skills Lab.
  • In collaboration with Manager Clinical Relations, strives to develop strategic, enduring relationships with facilities that lead to outstanding placement opportunities to WCU graduates.
  • Resolves conflicts / problems in the clinical setting with faculty.
  • Ensures that the Manager of Clinical Relations completes agency preapproval required forms.
  • Supports Manager of Clinical Relations with insurance and liability issues related to clinical sites, and provides appropriate documentation.
  • Creates budget projections for clinical maintenance.
  • Attends Advisory meetings to network and derive solutions to mutual concerns.
  • Participates in professional development and organizations in order to maintain an understanding of current ideas, research and practices. Attends meetings, workshops and seminars to enrich personal growth, knowledge and skill in management development.
  • Ensures that Managers of Clinical Faculty pursue solutions for faculty who have demonstrated deficits, including creation of performance improvement plans.
  • Collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Faculty in the creation of faculty development plans for all clinical faculty
  • Ensure MCR maintains accurate information, including client contact information and specific contractual agreements within the Clinical Scheduling Software (CORE EMLS)

  • Adheres to College / University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the College / University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards.
  • Maintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and as required to meet the needs of the College / University and assures time worked and / or time-off is recorded properly.
  • Exercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustments.
  • Maintains order, cleanliness and safety at work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum & Preferred Qualifications :

Required :

  • Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in education, business, or administration required.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Preferred :

  • Master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing or nursing administration preferred.
  • Current Registered Nurse License required in state of employment.
  • Approval by the Board of Registered Nursing to assume the role of Nursing Instructor preferred. Remediation available to obtain approval.
  • Experience & Skills :

    Required :

  • Typically requires advanced practical knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of a single professional discipline or a broad understanding of multiple related disciplines. Experience leading a team, project, program, or function is typically required. Traditionally requires a minimum of 5 years of related work and educational experience.
  • Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence.
  • Knowledge in technological support and delivery of program area and services.
  • Knowledge and evidence of strong supervisory and management skills as applicable to specialized program area.
  • Knowledge of state, federal and local laws / regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and other accreditation standards (WSCUC).
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Knowledge of applicable databases and computer application systems to supply the most accurate information, reports and projections.
  • Program specific requirements :
  • Completion of at least one year’s experience teaching courses related to nursing or a course which includes practice in teaching nursing.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate and practical knowledge of their field or discipline.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
  • Ability to effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment and machines such as computer terminal, calculator and copier.
  • Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community.
  • Ability to use effective communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations and effective listening skills.
  • Ability to speak before public groups, committees and meetings.
  • Ability to effectively use interpersonal skills, follow through with duties, provide attention to detail, and demonstrate the ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to use creative facilitation and conflict resolution skills to resolve difficult and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-direct, self-pace, multi-task and function well under pressure of deadlines and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to interpret rules, regulations, policies and procedures and assure compliance.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to travel / drive locally on a weekly, daily and / or on an as needed basis.
  • Preferred :

  • Knowledgeable of medical community and established relationships with its professional members preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience working with or in clinical sites, placing students, and coordinating related documents preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate bilingual skills is a plus but not mandatory.
