About Our Mission
American Castanea is committed to returning a tree back from extinction – the American chestnut. We are collaborating with top scientists to develop a blight-tolerant transgenic American chestnut tree, using advanced biotechnologies to restore America's great hardwood trees.
What You'll Do
As a member of our team, you will help bring back the first tree from extinction. Your responsibilities will include evaluating the relevance of ongoing university research to our objectives, developing a bioinformatics database, and assisting in analysis projects designed to identify the genetic basis for core fitness traits.
Requirements
- Graduate student in a plant-science related field with a GPA of 3
- Capacity to efficiently synthesize and summarize ideas & data
- Experience in statistical genetics and rare variant analysis
- Ideal experience in analyzing and interpreting next generation sequencing data, particularly in DNA and RNA-seq
- Horticulture, forestry, or agriculture experience a plus
