Position Summary
The Director, Executive Communications will support and shape how our CEO (and other top executives) communicate. The ideal candidate will be able to convey complex ideas in a politically challenging environment. Creativity and capacity for irony and humor are a must. The ideal candidate will support all facets of executive communication including speeches, op-eds, talking points, press quotes and digital presence.
The Director will interact with all levels of staff within ACP, across all departments and disciplines, and with key external stakeholders and members. Excellent communication skills, professionalism, organizational skills and a desire to learn the industry are necessary attributes for this position. The renewable energy industry is a fast paced, emerging space and ACP’s Communications and Executive team reflects that and manages priorities accordingly. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise and grow within a rapidly growing industry.

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $100,000- 150,000. ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs. ACP offers 401k, PTO and sick leave, commuter benefits, wellness reimbursement, and professional development/tuition reimbursements for eligible employees.

- The CEO’s Voice: You’ll be the architect of the CEO’s communication portfolio. Whether it's speeches, op-eds, or talking points, your writing will shape how the world sees our CEO — and the clean energy industry.
- Social Media Superpowers: You’ll be the mastermind behind the CEO’s social media presence. From clever tweets to thoughtful blog posts, you’ll craft content that reflects our CEO’s expertise while positioning ACP as the go-to thought leader in the clean energy world.
- Press, Panels, & Public Engagements: Work with the Communications team to prepare the CEO for a wide variety of public activities. (ACP’s CEO plays a significant role in multiple public- facing events every week.).
- C-Suite Collaboration: Work with other ACP Executives to support their communications needs.
- Stay Ahead of the Trends: ACP is at the forefront of the national clean energy debate. ACP leadership must always bring fresh and relevant content to the table.
- Media Relations: Adding ACP’s leadership voice to press releases, public statements, and interviews.
- Team Player: Effective executive communications requires working across ACP policy programs and with cross-functional teams (policy, advocacy, membership).
- Experience: You have 8 years in progressive communications roles including writing for c-suite executives, with demonstrated ability to write for different platforms and audiences. Proven track record of moving projects and campaigns forward and working in innovative, dynamic environments.
- Impeccable Writing Skills: You’re the person who can pivot from sarcasm to sincerity and still get the point across. Your writing is sharp, clever, and professional, but never without a little personality. You can take complex topics and turn them into something everyone can understand — and enjoy reading.
- Strategic Thinking: You’re a creative powerhouse who thinks ahead. Whether it’s anticipating media coverage or planning an executive’s next big speech, you’re always ready to stay one step ahead.
- Clean Energy Knowledge & Fast Learner: Knowlege of the clean energy sector, a passion for energy policy, and understanding of our audiences.
- Media Savvy: You’ve worked with the media before, and you know how to handle high-profile situations with grace. A little press training wouldn’t hurt either, but you’ve got the skills to back it up.
- Collaboration Skills: You’re an excellent communicator who knows how to work with a variety of teams and leadership personalities. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are always looking for ways to make your colleagues look good.
- Bonus Points: Experience working in or with membership-based trade associations. Familiarity with media relations and public appearances. The ability to crack a joke or two while still getting things done.
