General Position Summary
The Senior Director, Member Sales & Engagement will report to the SVP, Member Relations and be responsible for leading the membership growth, retention and engagement strategies for the trade association. This role will focus on expanding the membership base, increasing member engagement, and driving new revenue opportunities through member recruitment, member dues increases, non-dues revenue opportunities, and other business initiatives. The Senior Director will work closely with the SVP and greater membership operations and strategy team to align membership approach and programs with the association’s overall goals and mission.
The Senior Director will also interact with all levels of staff within ACP and with key external stakeholders and members. Excellent communication skills, professionalism, organizational skills and a desire to learn the industry are necessary attributes for this position. The renewable energy industry is a fast paced, emerging space and ACP’s Member Relations team reflects that and manages priorities accordingly. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise and grow within a rapidly growing industry.

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $130,000- 160,000 with additional commission and/or bonus. - With the support of the SVP, oversee the entire member sales and engagement process, driving towards a larger membership base and higher membership retention percentage.
- Build upon current and identify new opportunities for ACP’s membership growth strategy. This includes focusing on both acquisition and retention of members through developing a pipeline of prospects, optimizing sales funnels, new program creation, and building and developing high value relationships with both current members and prospects.
- Cultivate and own a portfolio of members ranging from $10-15M in revenue.
- Lead direct reports responsible for new member pitches and engagement with thought leadership, excellent mentorship and skill development to achieve department and organizational goals. This includes fostering a results-driven culture, ensuring high performance and accountability through delegating tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring optimal utilization of strengths and resources, and managing team workload and productivity.
- Design and capitalize on revenue opportunities that align with the association’s mission and goals through partnerships with technical resources, advocacy, and policy teams to drive ACP’s membership value proposition and reach new markets, secure new membership, and grow retention of current members.
- Support the annual department goal setting process and act as business partner to the leads of other membership areas, Member Operations and Member Strategy, to ensure entire Member Relations department reaches strategic goals.
- In partnership with ACP’s marketing department, oversee the development of marketing materials and proposal templates.
- Utilize data analytics to identify membership trends, areas of opportunity, and risks, and create or adjust strategies accordingly.
- With Senior Vice President, manage the membership development and engagement budget, forecast membership revenue and other related financials, and monitor and report on the financial performance of membership initiatives.
- Represent the association at industry events, conferences, and meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field.
- 10 years of progressive experience in sales and engagement roles, including trade association, membership.
- 3 years of demonstrated leadership ability managing direct reports, developing skills and resources, and hiring and training new staff.
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets, particularly in a trade association or similar organization, in the tens of million-dollar range.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Familiarity with CRM and membership management software, as well as digital marketing and business development tools.
- Travel as required (expected 5-7 times/year)
