Position Overview

The Production Lead (PL) is responsible for the coordination and oversight of daily production workflows and achievement of production goals in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). 

The PL supervises the production team, providing clear instruction and support to ensure compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and organic standards. The PL supports the institution and Apothecary Shoppe to ensure students and customers receive materials on time and provides support to students and customers as needed related to shipments and retail orders. The PL is familiar with inventory management and supply needs for upcoming semesters and retail sales. The PL also contributes to ongoing improvement initiatives that support sustainable, cost-effective, and efficient shipping and production practices. The PL engages in regular professional development to maintain knowledge of current shipping guidelines, including international shipping, as well as GMP and organic handling standards. 

The Work You’ll Do in This Role - Areas of Responsibility

Quality Control & Production Management

  • Supervise and provide leadership for the production team in coordination with the Purchasing Facilities Manager (PFM) including training, achievement of production goals, performance management, and timekeeping. 
  • Coordinate and support the production team to efficiently and accurately package and label herbs, essential oils, and other raw ingredients; assemble components and build all materials; and ensure all production work and handling of bulk products is in compliance with Oregon Tilth handling procedures and GMP requirements. 
  • Assist the PFM with ongoing inventory management projects and reports to ensure adequate inventory levels for all materials and supplies.
  • Ensure herbs, essential oils, and academic kits are safely, efficiently, and accurately packaged, labeled, and stored using the first-in, first-out (FIFO) rules.
  • Work closely with the PFM and QC/GMP to receive bulk products and/or provide final quality assurance review and approvals for bulk products.
  • Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of shipping and production team members.
  • Provide initial and ongoing training  and coaching for new and current production and shipping staff.  

Retail Management & Customer Service

  • Provide support to students and retail customers as needed regarding orders, shipments, and product information. 
  • Process retail orders including online orders in Shopify and on-site purchases. 
  • Ensure reception and will call areas are clean and welcoming, greet and help customers and guests on-campus; may also provide facility tours. 

Shipping & Receiving

  • Ensure accurate and timely shipment of all materials and retail orders via UPS, DHL, FedEx, and USPS, including international shipments. The PL is responsible for providing accuracy checks for outgoing retail and student shipments. 

Data and Information Management

  • Assist with data and information management in coordination with PFM including inventory adjustments, updates in online retail store (Shopify), and importing transactions from other systems as needed. 
  • Support the PFM with generating reports as needed for leadership.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is generally performed indoors in a storage, sorting and fulfillment area, and in a lab that requires the use of PPE (lab coat, hair covering, gloves, and mask; artificial nails, eyelashes and jewelry is not permitted during production). Frequent exposure to fragrant herbs and oils

  • Must be able to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, reach, climb, push, and pull frequently
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs frequently
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull 21-30 lbs occasionally
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull 31-50 lbs infrequently

The Skills & Experience You’ll Bring to ACHS

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in production, operations, or shipping.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience training, supervising, and motivating teams.
  • Tech-savvy with experience on Macintosh computers and using Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and creative tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-moving environment.
  • A customer-first mindset — you're friendly, helpful, and committed to a great student and customer experience.
  • Familiarity with shipping software (UPS Worldship, etc.) and small package logistics (domestic & international).
  • Ability to lift, move, and operate within a production and warehouse-type environment.
  • Valid driver’s license for occasional errands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college. 
  • Experience using Macintosh computers and software including Microsoft Office Suite applications, Google Docs, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience using a database to manage information including inventory and contact information.
  • Training in botanicals and other holistic health products, retail or manufacturing such as the Certificate in Natural Products Manufacturing.
  • Experience in microscope analysis.

  • Reporting: This position reports to the Purchasing and Facilities Manager 
  • Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional hours may be required as job duties demand.
