The Controller manages multiple accounting functions and operations such as general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and tax accounting.  Working with the VP of FP&A, and leading a small team of dedicated accountants, the Controller has ownership and responsibility to implement and enforce accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental financial and tax regulations and comply with GAAP. 

Responsibilities:

• Oversight and direction for the preparation of tax returns and other regulatory filings.
• Keeping up-to-date on emerging accounting pronouncements and proactively communicating impacts to management, staff, and board leaders when appropriate; and, proactively developing plans to implement policy/procedure changes to align with new guidance.
•  Oversight and direction of the fiscal interim and year-end financial audit.
• Setting organizational policy and providing direction and assistance to other departments regarding accounting procedures, and efficient controls and utilization of financial resources.
• Assessing and monitoring risk in accounting and financial processes and establishing/implementing appropriate controls.
• In addition, the Senior Director, Accounting is the primary liaison for the Audit Committee of the ACR Board of Chancellors.  As such, this position is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the audit committee.
• The Senior Director, Accounting evaluates accounting processes and systems and implements optimizations. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business decisions and improvements.
  • Providing input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.
  • Resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.

Qualifications: 

• Bachelors degree in Accounting, or related, required
• CPA required
• 15 years accounting experience
  • of which, 7 years leading staff
• Working knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems required
• PC and MS Office skills (Advanced Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) required
• Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and organizational skills required
• High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
• Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong project & time management skills: proven ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
• Proven track record of reliability, sound judgement, and accountability for self, immediate team, and others
• Strong people management skills and experience developing teams 
• 501(c)(3) and (c)(6) Non-profit organization and grant accounting experience preferred

This position will work a Remote schedule. When working remotely, workers must be self-motivated, possess excellent time management, and be highly organized.  Reliable internet connection is a must!  This position will be required to travel for key meetings (quarterly).

ACR is committed to a total rewards compensation philosophy that includes base salary in addition to our full suite of comprehensive benefits.  ACR’s goal is to pay competitively and equitably.  It is typical for individuals to be hired in the entry to middle of the range for their role, and compensation decisions depend on each case’s circumstances.  A reasonable estimate of the annual compensation range for this position is $171,000 – $240,000.
