American Colors, Inc. is a customer-focused manufacturer of liquid colorants and specialty chemicals supplied to diverse markets that include coatings, composites, plastics and cultured products. We opened our doors in Sandusky, OH in 1975. Our laboratory work involves the use of specialized equipment and instrumentation and hands-on benchwork to test in-process batches for conformance to established customer criteria and parameters necessary for product approval. The QC Supervisor lends technical support to our customers, manufacturing operations, as well as working in cross-functional teams from other areas of our business. This person will oversee the daily lab functions and lab technicians, equipment calibrations and certifications, and will manage daily priorities regarding product brought into the lab that requires testing. An efficient lab supervisor will help assure the quality level required for our products, expedite the processes required to correct and adjust any batches that may be out of specification, and thus ensure our production team can continue the unimpeded flow of producing product. This position will report to the Lab Manager and Vice President of Composites.
Responsibilities
- Attention to detail & well-organized.
- Understands good housekeeping practice and accountability for cleanliness of lab.
- Maintaining inventory and ordering of lab supplies and test bases.
- Capable of organizing and scheduling daily lab activities to meet internal and external timelines personally and by delegation of work.
- Able to perform all lab physical tests and follow work instructions documented in the ISO9001 Quality System.
- Capable of troubleshooting and collaborating to solve QC and production related product problems.
- Capable of investigating and collaborating to resolve customer complaints and product issues.
- Advanced color correction and ability to make compound batch adjustments.
- Capable of performing lab equipment calibrations, including entry into Unipoint software.
- Capable of QC data entry and Certificate Of Analysis creation.
- Establish, evaluate, and change product quality specifications.
- Capable of analyzing product history and requesting new standards.
- Capable of creating and requesting Customer Concessions.
- Capable of handling non-conforming material according to ISO procedures (including entry into Unipoint, performing root cause analysis, and determining an appropriate disposition for the NC material).
- Willingness to perform other functions as directed by Quality Manager/Lab Manager.
- Ability to train new technicians in all aspects of laboratory procedures.
- Scheduling technicians for any required weekend work/ensuring QC coverage for production.
- Ability to conduct performance reviews of QC lab technicians
- Review/Approve lab technician hours for payroll.
- Creation/Entry of inspection orders for new products.
- Collaborate w/ higher maintenance customers on establishing/changing standards.
- Entering ISO work instructions for new products.
- Data Analysis: Using this to monitor performance on key ISO quality objectives and make necessary improvements.
Qualifications
- Two or four-year degree in related field (technical, chemical, sciences, quality) required
- Experience in the industry or relatable quality control experience
- Math, reading, writing, and computer skills
- Willingness to comply with all safety guidelines
- Physically capable of manual labor and work 8-hour shifts
- Able to effectively lead, manage, and perform
- Able to multi-task and recognize and set priorities
- Reliable and punctual with a positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team
