Position Overview: This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes
exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could
include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Primary Duties: Record the historic trails of Bryce Canyons National Park's Amphitheater area as archaeological sites. Member will locate existing trails, photograph existing trails, and record existing trails as sites. This information will then be used to record the sites on the Utah Archaeological Sites data collection. This information will then be included into the park's historic trails report. Maintains related databases, forms, maps, and files. Enters archeological project data including site information, catalog records, field notes, site records into automated systems, appropriate forms, and archival records.
Schedule: This position is subject to the Member working from 36 to 44 hours per week.
Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute 36 to 44 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of up to $850 for every 40 hours worked to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Housing: ACE members will not be provided housing, however, there is a $1,000/month housing reimbursement available, not to exceed $12,000 over the length of the term.
Relocation: There is a relocation reimbursement available for $1,000.
Training: There is a training reimbursement available for $2,000.
Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support.
Qualifications
Required:
- Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
- Willing to undergo and must pass the required two-part criminal history check.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Preferred:
Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a
Masters degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as Great
Basin or Southwest Archaeology, and GIS.
Knowledge of Archaeological survey and fieldwork, and artifact analysis.
Knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
Deep interest in helping protect America's National Parks and their resources.
Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: Requires While retrieving or entering project data the Member will frequent sit or stand at a desk or table, while conducting project site monitoring the Member will be required to walk and hike in steep wooded areas of the park. Some areas can be remote and require several hours to get to the specific location.
- Environmental: Both outdoor and indoor conditions will be encountered. Work outdoors, environment conditions can change frequently, working under adverse weather conditions and in various climates. Indoor conditions typical office environment.
Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, rocky terrain, swamp or wetland conditions, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.
Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: While conducting on site tasks all required equipment including a vehicle will be provided by Bryce Canyon NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
