ABOUT A.C.T.’S CONSERVATORY
The Conservatory Department at A.C.T. hosts numerous theater-centered classes, training programs, and performance opportunities. The Conservatory supports A.C.T.’s values of lifelong and transformational learning for all. The Conservatory strives to promote inclusive spaces for everyone to exercise their talents, from recreational purposes to rigorous training towards becoming an artist.
POSITION PURPOSE
A Conservatory Teaching Artist (or Faculty) develops a lesson plan for their class assignment(s) and leads the execution of the lesson plan to their students. Additionally, Teaching Artist (or Faculty) may be assigned private coaching sessions with individual students and/or lead educational performance opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITES : (please note, this list is not exhaustive, but rather a representation of job duties)
Teaching Responsibilities – Scheduled Hours
- For classroom teaching, implement the contents of your class syllabus/lesson plan with all students during scheduled class hours.
- For private coaching, engage in sessions with students.
- For performance opportunities; lead rehearsals, tech, and performances with students.
Prep and Support Responsibilities – Unscheduled Hours
- For classroom or performance opportunities, create and submit a class syllabus/lesson plan to your program director prior to the first day of class. Syllabus/lesson plan should be guided by the department and program’s mission, policies, and framework. They should include the required materials from the A.C.T. and program syllabus template.
- Find and prepare class or private coaching materials, including printing and copying handouts.
- Set-up and tear-down classroom space to create an ideal learning environment, including A/V equipment set-up, tables, chairs, and other learning objective supplies.
- Regularly evaluate student learning progress and adjust class activities to support class learning.
- For Performance Opportunities, work in collaboration with other faculty and artists to fulfill learning objectives.
- Write and submit student evaluations.
Administrative Responsibilities – Mix of Scheduled & Unscheduled Hours
- Submit timely HR paperwork, including timesheets.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with administrative staff, facilities team, fellow teaching artists, and students/families to create and foster a positive learning environment, including taking student attendance.
- Participate in A.C.T.’s learning community by actively participating in ongoing professional development opportunities, when requested. i.e. Mandated Reporting Training, Live Scan, EDI Training, Company Meetings, Special Events, Faculty Meetings, etc. Some meetings/events require supervisor approval.
- Adhere to A.C.T. company and Conservatory department policies.
REQUIRED KNOWEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Previous experience teaching or working professionally in the class subject.
- Demonstrated passion for cultivating a positive learning environment.
- Strong classroom facilitation skills while working with a diversity of students with varying degrees of theater experience.
- Ability to give and receive positive and constructive feedback.
- Demonstrated alignment with A.C.T.’s Mission, Values and commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
- Including but not limited to, commitment to teaching in a multicultural environment, and accommodating students with diverse learning abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to create culturally responsive lesson plans with the ability to adapt based on the needs of the classroom, cultural differences, and individual students.
- High level of interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence (EQ).
- Basic Administrative Skills
- Fundamental knowledge working with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel), Google Suite (e.g., Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, Google Forms), Adobe (e.g. pdf), internet browsers, and email platforms.
- Strong calendar management, communication (verbal and written), organization, and prioritization skills.
- A keen attention to detail.
- Ability to commute and work in San Francisco.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Background working in theater, performing arts, cultural or non-profit institutions.
- SFS/STC/STUDIO: Teaching experience at a university level in course subject.
- YC: Teaching experience working with courses’ intended age group. (ages 8-19)
STATUS: Part-Time Seasonal Hourly Employee; Non-Exempt
WORKING LOCATION: Hybrid (Work from Home and On-Site) A.C.T. Campuses
PAY RATE: $33-$66 – per hour. Determined by A.C.T. CSV Faculty Experience Evaluation. All hours worked will be compensated, including teaching, prep, meetings, etc.
