Interim Medication Safety and Quality Officer- AZ

American Consultants is looking for an Interim Medication Safety and Quality Officer for a facility in AZ. You must have an active AZ pharmacy license.

Job Summary :

The Pharmacy Medication Safety and Quality Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing medication safety programs to ensure the safe use of medications throughout the organization. This role focuses on identifying medication-related risks, promoting best practices, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards related to medication safety and quality. The officer works closely with healthcare providers, pharmacists, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of continuous improvement in medication management.

Key Responsibilities :

Medication Safety Program Development :

Design and implement a comprehensive medication safety program.

  • Identify and analyze medication errors and adverse drug events to minimize risks.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance medication use processes.

Quality Assurance & Improvement :

Monitor and evaluate medication use policies, protocols, and guidelines.

  • Conduct regular audits and quality reviews to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at improving medication use outcomes and reducing errors.
  • Education & Training :

    Provide education and training on safe medication practices to pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare providers.

  • Promote best practices related to medication safety, including new protocols and technologies.
  • Regulatory Compliance :

    Ensure the organization complies with local, state, and federal regulations regarding medication safety.

  • Keep up-to-date with evolving medication safety guidelines and implement necessary changes.
  • Participate in accreditation and regulatory surveys, providing necessary reports and data on medication safety.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting :

    Collect, analyze, and report on medication error trends, root cause analyses, and safety-related incidents.

  • Utilize data to drive improvements and share findings with leadership teams.
  • Collaborative Leadership :

    Work closely with physicians, nursing staff, and clinical teams to ensure the safe prescribing, dispensing, and administration of medications.

  • Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy department and hospital leadership regarding medication safety matters.
  • Technology & Systems Integration :

    Lead or support efforts to incorporate medication safety features in electronic health records (EHR) and computerized provider order entry (CPOE) systems.

  • Evaluate the impact of new technologies on medication safety and quality.
  • Risk Management :

    Collaborate with the Risk Management team to investigate and resolve medication-related incidents.

  • Participate in root cause analysis and develop action plans to prevent future occurrences.
  • Qualifications :

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent.
  • Active pharmacist license in good standing.
  • Additional certification in medication safety (e.g., Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) or Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy) is preferred.

  • Work Environment :

  • Hospital or Healthcare Facility : Working in both clinical and administrative areas, with potential exposure to various healthcare settings (inpatient, outpatient, emergency).
  • Full-Time Position : May require occasional evening or weekend hours depending on organizational needs.
