A Elevator Repair Mechanic

Unitec seeks an experienced Elevator Repair Mechanic for its Long Island City (LIC) location.
As an Elevator Repair Mechanic, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of complex mechanical and electrical repairs and installations. This job requires highly skilled mechanical work and intricate control circuits.
Responsibilities:
- Extensive knowledge of elevator mechanics and electrical systems
- Ability to install and repair elevators and other lifting equipment.
- Proficient in close-tolerance mechanical work and intricate control circuits.
- Experience with complicated mechanical and electrical repairs and installations.
- Inspect elevators of all types to diagnose faulty operations and determine the source of failures and shutdowns.
- Make necessary repairs and adjustments or replace defective parts accurately to complete repairs.
- Regular inspections should be conducted to ensure the equipment is functioning correctly.
- Repairing worms and gears, wiring, connecting, and testing of controllers and other auxiliary electrical equipment.
- Machine babbitting, thrust renewals, motor and controller removal, and replacement.
- Experience installing on-site equipment while following established safety, maintenance, and/or testing procedures.
- Respond to emergency repair calls promptly.
- The ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
- Maintain accurate records of all repairs performed.
- Provide excellent customer service to building owners and occupants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment & Hazards:
- Elevator Mechanics work in various building types, including commercial, residential, and industrial settings.
- Exposure to heights, confined spaces, and loud noises
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials or conditions, including electrical shock, falls, and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Special Physical Demands:
- Elevator Mechanics must be able to lift heavy objects and equipment up to fifty pounds (50lbs) or more, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
- The job may require standing for prolonged periods and working in awkward positions.
- Manual dexterity for handling small tools and parts., good vision for close work, and reading schematics.
Work Contact Group:
- Moderate contact with regulatory agencies, customers, contractors, and management.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of experience in elevator repair and installation.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.
- A NYC inspector's license is a plus.
- Completion of an IBEW Local 3 Apprenticeship Program completion or A CET certification is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, safety regulations, and building codes.
- Ability to read and understand schematics.
- Experience working on hydraulic elevators.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license.
