Job Summary
Under the direction of the Crew Drill lead, operate/monitor rig equipment and support systems and perform general drilling rig operations, maintenance, housekeeping duties and material preservation activities in support of ongoing rig operations keeping safety at the for front of all operations. This critical role includes filling out boring logs to record drilling information with soil sample identification and labeling in real-time fashion on project sites.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with Drillers or Lead Drillers to set up and operate drilling equipment.
- Support the execution of geotechnical investigations and soil sampling.
- Review project instructions, and ensure all materials and supplies are available for project completion.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements for sealing of boreholes.
- Perform field testing and laboratory testing of concrete, soils, bituminous, or masonry products.
- Perform quality assurance services on construction sites of materials adhering to project specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on drilling equipment and CMT equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and report any issues promptly to Drillers or Drill Leads.
- Assist in the collection, labeling, and transport of soil and rock samples.
- Follow established procedures for proper storage and documentation of collected samples.
- Prepare written field logs of borings, including judging, documenting soil classifications, and apparent geologic origin.
- Assist in site preparation activities, including marking drilling locations and ensuring access for drilling equipment.
- Check in with Site Contact to review plans and specifications of project work.
- Understand site activities for conducting field testing with minimal disruption to work area, positioning yourself appropriately on the job site.
- Record drilling and CMT data accurately, maintaining detailed field information for reference and analysis.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure data integrity and quality control.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during CMT and drilling operations.
- Participate in safety meetings and proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve project objectives efficiently.

Supervisory Responsibility
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Class D Driver’s License
- Insurable driving record and ability to obtain a medical card.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
- Willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel up to 20% - 80% of work time including overnight travel.
Preferred Skills
- Class A or B Driver’s License.
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably as a CMT Technician, Drill Assistant or in a related field.
Pay Transparency
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $22.00 and $25.00 per hour based on skill set and experience. Work Environment
This job primarily operates outdoors in all seasons and varying conditions.
Physical Demands
- Capable of the physical labor required including work at hazardous waste sites, with personal protective equipment.
- Ability to:
- Frequently lift 30-60 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
- Occasionally lift 60-100 pounds from the floor to 2 feet.
- Frequently carry 30-60 pounds for 10-30 feet.
- Occasionally carry 60-100 pounds for 10-30 feet.
- Stand 80% of the day (often on uneven surfaces).
- Move 80% of the day, with frequent bending and stooping.
