Description
Assist and follow the direction of project managers, engineers and scientists to complete projects. Work assignments may include field monitoring, sample collection, information gathering, data management, assisting with reports, and computer related activities such as spreadsheets and word processing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist project managers, engineers and scientists by conducting sampling of soil, groundwater, soil vapors, wastewater, surface water, asbestos, wastes and other environmental media in accordance with established protocols.
- Assist project managers, engineers and scientists with the oversight of contaminated media remediation and/or installation of remediation systems.
- Assist project managers, engineers and scientists with data collection activities, environmental surveys, information analysis an report preparation.
- Assist in organizing and analyzing environmental data using computer spreadsheets and database programs and manual methods.
- Prior to performing field work, coordinate activities including, but not necessarily limited to, site access, utility verification, coordination with subcontractors, sample container selection/coordination with the laboratory, field equipment and vehicle checkout, and organization of proper field forms/documentation methods.
- After completion of field work coordinate delivery of laboratory samples under proper chain-of-custody to the laboratory, upload chain of custody and field notes to the file and complete follow-up meeting with the project manager, engineer or scientist.
Other Areas of Accountability
- Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, along with AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies, to promote the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
- Maintain valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Some positions may require use of personal vehicle for company business. Maintain compliance with DOT driver regulations if required for position. Maintain appropriate physicals if required for position.
- Most duties will be conducted outdoors and away from main office.
- Frequent travel required within regional area.
- Out-of-town travel that requires overnight staffs will be required for some jobs.
- Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
- Maintain the quality of services and work product.
- Complete assigned projects within the allotted time.
- Establish, maintain and build working relationships with clients.
- Maintain high chargeable productivity.
- Coordinate with other AET staff with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication.
- Perform other tasks as necessary to meet departmental or company goals.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, or related Science field.
- 0-3 years of experience in an engineering or science related field.
- Willingness to pursue and maintain professional certifications/licenses as they relate to the work being completed.
- Internship or previous work experience preferred, but not mandatory.
Preferred
- EIT or GIT certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of Hire Date
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering or scientific principles within specialty area and ability to apply that knowledge to the job.
- Experience using personal computer software, especially Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work at environmental remediation, industrial and construction sites and perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples, operating field instruments, following procedures, planning, organizing and arranging logistics for the job, and documenting field activities and data collected.
- Communication skills sufficient to convey complex technical information in a clear manner to diverse audiences.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
- Capable of the physical labor required, , successfully complete OSHA required 40-hour training with personal protective equipment. Ability to occasionally move 40 to 50.
- Ability to perform hand auger borings and field testing throughout the working day.
Pay Transparency
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $27.00– $33.80 per hour based on skill set and experience. Work Location
This job primarily operates primary in a field environment in outdoor conditions, on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions. This role secondary operates in an office environment and uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
