Job Summary

The Laboratory Operations Coordinator for Concrete is responsible for overseeing administrative functions and operational processes within the petrography laboratory. This role integrates project coordination with laboratory workflow management, ensuring efficient data tracking, compliance with industry standards, and optimized project execution.

The position involves mentoring junior staff, facilitating project documentation, maintaining laboratory quality control, and coordinating interdepartmental processes. This role requires the blending of technical knowledge of laboratory procedures, project management expertise, and strong organizational skills to support cross-functional teams.

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support for all project lifecycle stages, including setup, documentation, invoicing, and closeout.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and lab staff to ensure accurate data entry and tracking in business systems (Dynamics, Qest, or equivalent).
  • Assist in drafting and formatting project reports, technical documentation, and proposals while ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
  • Identify areas in administrative workflows and recommend enhancements for continuous process improvement.
  • Support training and mentoring efforts and assisting in developing learning materials.
  • Oversee daily laboratory administrative workflow operations, ensuring sample processing aligns with industry standards and project deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate sample tracking, documentation, and chain-of-custody compliance.
  • Ensure laboratory accreditation compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, and internal quality assurance standards.
  • Remain abreast of current trends in laboratory processes and efficiencies.
  • Monitor lab equipment maintenance schedules, coordinate calibration, and ensure proper inventory levels for chemicals and supplies.
  • Provide guidance to lab technicians, assisting in onboarding and professional development.
  • Act as the primary liaison between lab and project administration teams to ensure alignment of objectives and deliverables.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a mentor and resource for junior staff in both administrative and laboratory settings.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, Geology, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in project administration, laboratory operations, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Familiarity with business systems such as Dynamics, Qest, or similar software.
  • Experience with laboratory data tracking, quality control, and sample management preferred.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of petrographic laboratory standards (ASTM C856, ASTM C295).
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and developing training materials.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience in budgeting, invoicing, and financial tracking of projects.
  • Pay Transparency

    Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $61,800 - $77,300 per year based on skill set and experience. The selected candidate must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

    Work Environment

  • This position operates in both a professional office and laboratory environment.
  • The role involves routine use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, photocopiers) and laboratory instruments.
  • Occasional fieldwork or site visits may be required.
