General Purpose Of The Job
The Manager, STAT Compliance and Reporting is responsible for the oversight and execution of a comprehensive statutory compliance filing process. This includes coordinating the timely preparation and/or review of required statutory filings for multiple insurance companies with multi-state insurance licensure. This individual will also support the preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory-basis financial statements and related filing documents. The incumbent will be required to collaborate cross functionally with other departments to gather required information and understand the impacts of actual financial results for our US domiciled insurance companies.

- Position sits in West Des Moines and will work an onsite hybrid schedule**
- Manage the timely preparation and/or review of state-specific compliance filing requirements for our seven US domiciled insurance companies.
- Report on status of compliance filing requirements to internal stakeholders on both a recurring and an ad-hoc basis.
- Maintain and/or improve state compliance filing processes and controls.
- Support the preparation and review for certain quarterly and annual statutory financial statements.
- Support the maintenance and/or improvement of statutory reporting processes and controls.
- Direct the work of one or more Accounting team members for the completion of a variety of daily, weekly, and monthly accounting and reporting tasks.
- Collaborate with other departments across the organization including Compliance, Investment Accounting, Actuarial, Risk and Finance.
- Performs other regulatory capital- and regulatory reporting-related work as assigned.

Education And/Or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, plus five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and/or statutory compliance-focused roles; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience in state compliance filings required.
- Experience in statutory financial reporting is desired but not required.
- Experience in the life insurance industry is desired but not required.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is desired but not required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- In-depth understanding of the life and annuity insurance industry, including products issued, operating activities performed across the entity, and the regulatory environment.
- Broad understanding of financial statement accounts of a life and annuity company, including investment and actuarial balances.
- Knowledge of applicable statutory financial reporting rules and regulations along with regulatory filings / forms / exhibits.
- Excellent financial and analytical skills.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
- Customer service oriented.
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external parties at all levels.
- Excellent mathematical and accounting skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, financial systems and various software applications.
