Shift: 7AM to 3:30PM We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to our culture of: Service Excellence Treating each other with Respect & Honesty Responsibility & Accountability Continuous Improvement Maintaining Confidentiality Role and Responsibilities The Specimen Processor receives accessions, identifies, and labels specimens according to established protocol. This position may also be assigned to various other processing duties necessary to assure samples arrive at the analysis area ready for testing, assure requisitions are available for electronic review and storage, or enter financial information before the billing is processed. AEL is seeking an individual that is committed and focused on providing the unique turnaround time and quality demands for testing services for health care providers. Principle Accountabilities/Responsibilities Receives accessions, identifies, and labels specimens according to established protocol to ensure all specimens are test-ready (defined as having the correct label attached and ready for all laboratory instrumentation to interpret patient data as well as test requested). Accessions an average of 40 requisitions per hour while assigned to the non-specialized bench. Achieves established specimens per hour on other bench assignments. Identifies problems that arise during the accessioning process and either resolves them or requests assistance from the team lead or other supervisory personnel. Understands the importance of accurate specimen identification; matches label and individual specimen identifiers every time. Operates specimen sorting equipment per established protocol; operation includes maintenance when assigned and troubleshooting errors as they arise. Qualifications and Education Requirements High school graduate or equivalent. Excellent computer, data entry, and customer service skills required. Accurate minimum typing speed of 25 wpm required. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve. Strong communication skills; both written and verbal. Experience Six months of previous lab experience is highly preferred. Licensure, Registration, Certification None required. Physical Requirements Work requires some physical effort. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, and typing. Lifting or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) is required. Environmental Conditions Work is performed in a laboratory setting with potential exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous chemicals.
