Day to day as an Urban Forester
The Urban Forester for American Fork City is responsible for planning, maintaining, and improving the city's urban forest. This position involves tree inventory management, policy development, public education, and overseeing tree care operations in parks, streets, and public spaces. The Urban Forester collaborates with city departments, residents, and contractors to enhance the city's tree canopy's health, safety, and sustainability.

To excel as the Urban Forester at American Fork City, you will need a combination of technical skills and effective communication abilities. Forestry experience is essential for understanding the intricacies of urban forestry. Proficiency in using industry-standard software and tools for tree management is crucial.
Strong English communication skills will enable you to effectively liaise with beautification committees, city officials, and the community, fostering collaborative relationships. Additionally, possessing a current driver's license is necessary for mobility around the city. You must also demonstrate your commitment to your profession by obtaining and maintaining Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture within three months of your hire date, along with acquiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the same timeframe.
These qualifications will ensure your success in managing and enhancing the city's tree system.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are :
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Arboriculture, Arborticulture or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of experience in related fields.
- Effective English communication skills.
- Must have a current driver's license
- ISA Certified Arborist (required or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) .
- Utah Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain).
- Must obtain a CDL within 3 months of hire date.
