Overview


American Fossil Solutions, LLC (AFS) is seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to join our growing team! As a member of the AFS team, you will be responsible for monitoring project financials, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, and collaborating with project teams to optimize profitability and financial performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of project accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional self-motivated individual to contribute to a crucial part of the organization

Key Responsibilities



Financial Reporting:

·      Monitor project budgets, costs, and revenue recognition.

·      Track project expenses, including labor, materials, and overheads.

·      Ensure accurate allocation of costs to respective projects.

·      Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual project financial reports.

·      Analyze project financial data to identify variances and trends.

·      Provide insights and recommendations to project managers and senior management.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

·      Assist in the development and management of project budgets.

·      Prepare monthly forecasts and updates to project budgets.

·      Work closely with project teams to ensure budget adherence and cost control.

Cost Analysis & Control:

·      Conduct detailed cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities.

·      Monitor project profitability and margins.

·      Implement and maintain cost control measures to optimize project financial performance.

Compliance & Documentation:

·      Ensure compliance with project accounting standards and company policies.

·      Maintain accurate project financial records and documentation.

·      Assist with internal and external audits as needed.

Collaboration & Communication:

·      Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.

·      Communicate financial information effectively to non-financial audiences.

·      Participate in project meetings to provide financial updates and insights.


Duties and Responsibilities


·       Oversee the payroll process to ensure precision and efficiency.  Maintain compliance with all payroll regulations and deadlines.

·       Support State registrations and ongoing requirements.

·       Support the tax compliance department of the third-party payroll company to meet all state payroll tax requirements.

·       Oversee the Building Trades Union’s craft wage and fringes processing.  Ensure that craft union fringes and benefits are processed timely and accurately.  

·       Oversee the annual true-up processes on T&M craft labor wage markups 

·       Oversee the prevailing wage and/or certified payroll processing on state and/or federally funded projects.

·       Oversee and manage the financials for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgets

·       Perform detailed cost analysis and reporting to support project managers and stakeholders

·       Track and record all project-related expenses, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with financial policies

·       Prepare and present financial reports, including budget forecasts, cost-to-complete reports, and variance analysis

·       Work closely with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure financial alignment and transparency

·       Ensure all financial activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements

·       Participate in the development of internal controls and financial reporting over job costing for construction projects

·       Ensure compliance with federal or state agencies such as ODOT and the DOE, etc. on state or federally funded projects

·       Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely posting and classification of detailed transactions for various projects within job costing module for percentage completion accounting in accordance with GAAP

·       Responsible for the project set-up activities to ensure compliance with various municipalities and states

·       Work with the company’s third-party accounting firm to prepare the company’s monthly reporting package for management review 

·       Oversee, and assist as necessary, the processes to complete annual workers compensation true-ups and insurance company’s audits.

·       Support construction teams with all financial management activities such as coding, contract management, and cost reporting

·       Communicate in a clear and effective manner while fostering collaborative relationships with team the members, managers, construction teams, external partners, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders within the Company

·       Maintaining confidentiality is a key responsibility of this position

·       Utilize spreadsheet experience, such as use of Excel pivot tables, in the development and maintenance of various financial reports


Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or directly related experience; a CPA is strongly preferred

·       At least 5 years of proven experience in construction accounting or a similar role; experience with a public accounting firm is a plus

·       Experience in supervising a department or organization

·       Experience with building trades craft unions, specifically in-depth experience with local craft wage and fringe benefits

·       The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial principles of construction project management

·       Previous experience monitoring project budgets and running analysis

·       Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

·       Proficiency in accounting software and strong experience in Microsoft Excel

·       Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·       Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·       Demonstrated understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with advanced skill level in Excel

·       Prior experience using a construction accounting software package, preferably Foundation, Sage or similar 

·       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and to work cooperatively and collaboratively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and at all organizational levels

·       Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities while being detail oriented

·       Ability to manage change and adapt to changing processes and procedures

·       Demonstrated initiative to continue to learn and broaden accounting knowledge

·       Uses critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions

·       Invests time in planning, discovery, and reflection to drive better decisions and more efficient implementations
