Summary Of Principal Responsibilities
The General Accountant is responsible for providing assistance with supporting the overall integrity of the balance sheet and operations accounts central office balance sheet accounts, and related income and expense accounts, as appropriate.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The key responsibilities of the General Accountant include the following:
- Perform monthly Bank Reconciliations for central office bank accounts: ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions. Help investigate and resolve discrepancies as they are identified.
- Work closely with colleagues in Accounts Payable (AP) to ensure that all ACH returns, and similar entries reflect the correct vendor account.
- Primarily responsible for the general oversight of all central office operations balance sheet accounts, including, but not limited to, all prepaid and distributive cost accounts and related income and expense accounts as appropriate. Monitor stale payroll checks account, follow-up with payroll stale checks payees, and account payable stale checks as appropriate. Responsible for the reconciliation and preparation of central office service vendor invoices, G/L entries, distribution of charges of central office operations balance sheet accounts.
- Responsible for central office non-contribution entries, allocation changes, and other miscellaneous general journal Handles and investigates all inquiries.
- Assist the Finance Leadership Team in account reviews and reconciliations in preparation for the year-end closing, ensuring all regular central office and regional office accounts are completed appropriately, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assist with managing and maintaining fixed asset and depreciation accounting system, including the preparation of the depreciation and fixed asset reclassification entries.
- Working in partnership with the Human Resources Department, ensuring that accurate and up-to-date benefit rate information is calculated for proper payments to insurance carriers, Ensure proper payments to vendors for premiums/claims. Reconcile employee benefit accounts. Ensure that benefits and payroll entries are accurate, complete and timely and appropriate accounts are reviewed, reconciled, and accounts are accurate as Develop an understanding of the AFSC payroll system and employee benefits.
- Assistance with the reconciliation of the monthly income file to the General Ledger; ensuring file is accurate and uploaded in a timely manner.
- Primarily responsible for the collection, organizing, and management of AFSC property and equipment lease commitments. Develop, update, and maintain a schedule of all AFSC domestic and international office locations and equipment lease commitments; maintain a schedule of rent payables as appropriate.
- Responsible to assist in the processing of Certificates of Insurance when requested and assist with insurance renewal applications when necessary.
- Special projects for the Finance Leadership Team as assigned.
- Assist with credit card administration.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
Experience
- Four years or more of accounting experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency on PC, including the ability to develop spreadsheets, and ability to work with a variety of software packages. Demonstrated ability to work with figures and do detailed work.
- Demonstrated intermediate understanding of accounting principles, including (at a minimum) account reconciliations, balance sheet analysis, and fixed asset accounting.
- Ability to communicate financial information to people with varying degrees of financial experience and sophistication.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully and creatively solve problems, including the ability to innovate, work independently and collaboratively, and follow through to completion.
