Assistant Analytical Chemist

General Description of Duties
Perform in-house analytical testing on incoming raw materials, raw samples and /or finished products. Help perform complex product adjustments to meet quality standards. Maintain accurate records on all work performed. Maintain and calibrate instruments regularly. Assist in developing and validating new methods for the analysis of samples. Receive instruction and guidance from R & D scientists of all levels. The position has internal contacts with R&D staff, Production, Purchasing and inter-company lab personnel regarding resources, production and procedures. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in ways that foster good relationships with those inside and outside the company.
Essential Job Functions
- Continually learn and participate in all instrument operations within the lab.
- Monitor instrument performance and help troubleshoot all functional problems.
- Be able to learn and eventually perform all preventative maintenance on analytical lab instruments and ensure proper calibration of all lab instruments.
- Ensure accuracy of all quantitative analysis.
- Maintain adequate stocks of necessary reagents and materials for operating instruments.
- Assist in developing, validating new analytical, and isolation/extraction methods.
- Help in assisting QC towards make decisions regarding “pass/reject” on ingredient and product lots.
- Trouble-shoot problem areas within the QC department and recommend solutions.
- Participate in the investigation of non-conformances in products.
- Assist in establishing and implementing QC procedures for the continuous improvement of the QC Lab Department functions. These include but are not limited to record keeping, trend analysis, specification development, and reporting of data in a timely manner.
- Responsible for organizing, storing, clean up and disposal of instrument waste and samples tested.
- Provide training for new employees as needed.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and policies.
- Must have regular, punctual attendance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of HPLC experience required.
- Familiarity with contemporary Agilent software for running sequences and for report preparation strongly preferred.
- Must have experience with sample preparation, mobile phase preparation, and HPLC plumbing.
- Minimum B.A. /B.S. in related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Must be able to report to other facilities, according to company need. (traveling will be very seldom, this person will mostly work from our East LA location until we move to our new plant in San Fernando)
- Must have a desire to learn and become adept at instrument operation and method development.
Salary : $21 - $25
