Summary/Objective: The PSL Press Operator is responsible for the efficient production of printed labels according to company and customer requirements. This role ensures compliance with quality standards while maintaining cost efficiency, minimal downtime, and adherence to safety and operational procedures.
Specific Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Set up, operate, and monitor the printing press according to job specifications in the internal job files and ERP system.
- Ensure printed materials meet company and customer quality standards, including color consistency and defect-free production.
- Maintain cost-efficient production by optimizing setup, run time, material consumption, and minimizing changeovers and downtime.
- Identify and report defects, inconsistencies, or necessary job specification changes to supervisors.
- Archive production materials according to company standards.
- Detect defects in printing tools, support equipment, and press components, reporting issues for resolution.
- Suggest process improvements and contribute to a continuous improvement culture.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, complying with GMP, 5S, and other company improvement initiatives.
- Support the production department with additional tasks as needed.
Competencies and Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to operate printing press machinery efficiently.
- Ability to differentiate colors, shades, and tones (vision testing required).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to detect defects in print production.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate a responsible mindset.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a three-shift operation, with availability for overtime when required.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience running a printing press.
Preferred:
- Previous experience operating a flexographic press.
- Technical or mechanical training in a relevant field.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
- Repetitive motion involved in operating machinery.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
- Requires visual acuity for operating machinery, handling cutting tools, and working with precise measurements.
- Exposure to hazards, including chemical handling and proximity to moving forklifts.
Physical Demands:
