Manage the plant's Maintenance Department to achieve planned plant operating and reliability goals while controlling maintenance costs and ensuring the highest possible level of personnel safety. Maintain a competent, motivated and adequately trained staff that will interact in a team environment with the other plant departments. Manage capital and major maintenance projects from conception to timely, cost contained completion. This position will be responsible for the facility’s environmental compliance program. The position will administer American Gypsum policies and procedures to establish and promote safe and healthy working conditions while ensuring compliance with all OSHA regulations and American Gypsum Safety Program requirements. This position will direct regular duties and special projects within the Maintenance Department including but not limited to the descriptions below.

REGULAR DUTIES

  • Establish and maintain safe working conditions and procedures, and ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner. Implement and maintain proactive working habits with all plant personnel to promote continuous overall personnel safety.
  • Actively develop, implement and participate in all Company safety and housekeeping programs, rules and procedures, and ensure all Federal, State and other regulatory agency safety requirements are met.
  • Ensure that reporting personnel are trained to promote a safety culture through meetings and contacts.
  • Implement and enforce all Company policies. Act as a role model in compliance with and enforcement of Company policies for all personnel.
  • Select, develop, evaluate, train and motivate assigned staff to ensure an effective work force, maximum utilization of individual capabilities, and adequate continuity of maintenance functions.
  • Coordinate maintenance personnel work schedules to ensure adequate manpower availability and troubleshooting coverage. Coordinate trouble call-out plans and procedures to ensure prompt call-out response.
  • Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of operating and maintenance problems and implement corrective measures.
  • Play a key role in recognizing machine inadequacies, recommending improvements, and in implementing approved improvements.
  • Monitor and proactively control maintenance spending to comply with operating plan budgets. Ensure proper account coding of maintenance expenditures.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with appropriate personnel in other departments as well as the Safety Manager and Plant Manager.
  • Ensure the plant CMMS program is maintained as required to optimize plant equipment PM schedules.
  • Manage contractors as needed.
  • Play a key role in assessing major maintenance requirements and in recommending budgets and schedules for same. Assist in preparation of future plans for maintenance activities and projects.
  • Direct routine maintenance programs and major maintenance projects with adequate planning and implementation to minimize plant delay time.
  • Administer preventative maintenance plan for reliable operation of plant equipment. Search out new technology/methods for improving maintenance practices.
  • Make sure all environmental compliance work and reporting is being completed in a proactive and professional manner.
  • Maintain a detailed and up to date environmental compliance program binder that can be easily used by plant personnel when the maintenance manager is not available onsite.
  • Participate in development of annual operating plans.
  • Assist in achieving company production goals in waste and delay.
  • Manage and direct parts purchasing activities to maintain adequate spare parts inventories required to maximize equipment availability while maintaining acceptable cost levels.
  • Provide training for existing employees to maintain competent skill level in the maintenance department.
  • Incorporate new equipment and/or processes into the existing maintenance plan.
  • Take an active role in communications between departments, especially explaining new equipment additions and upcoming maintenance projects and schedules.
  • All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Industrial Maintenance preferred, or equivalent in experience.
  • Minimum of eight years of maintenance experience within an automated manufacturing environment.
  • A working knowledge of OSHA regulations for General Industry.
  • Proficient with CMMS program and software, preferably Fiix CMMS.
  • In-depth knowledge of PLC’s and related control components.
  • In-depth knowledge of variable frequency motor drives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and willingness to interact with all levels of plant personnel.
  • Strong equipment (mechanical and electrical) maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong team building skills and the ability to make group presentations and conduct training sessions for groups and individuals.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Word and Excel, and preferably proficient with CAD.
  • Strong information gathering, investigative, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to plan and conduct meetings and training sessions.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI programming, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders and of other means of accessing equipment and work areas to perform inspections of equipment and areas.
  • Adequate vision and hearing as required for safe pedestrian movement throughout the plant facility and for inspection of equipment, facilities and areas.
  • Proficient verbal and written skills
  • Must be able to read and understand prints, electrical and mechanical
  • Knowledge of PLC programming a must.
  • Must have manual dexterity needed to type on a computer keyboard.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Occasional local travel in a personal or company vehicle is required.
  • Occasional out of town and overnight travel is required.

PLANT SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Manage all personnel related requirements of the Maintenance Team.
  • Review and approve purchase orders.
  • Assist and review night shift Maintenance Trouble Calls.
  • Review Mill and Dryer flame safety tests.
  • Maintain Plant Equipment Lists.
  • Develop, review and approve JSA’s as needed.
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed mainly in the plant’s manufacturing areas and offices.
  • Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or other approved similar work hours. Must be available for call-ins to assist in diagnosing production/equipment upsets. Occasional additional hours per week and/or weekend work on special projects may be necessary.
