The American Heart Association has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Implementation Manager in Arizona.

 

Supporting grant funded activities in Arizona, the Program Implementation Manager will identify and strategically engage other organizations and coalitions help increase adoption, implementation, and enforcement of policies prohibiting the sale of menthol and other flavored tobacco products and increase awareness of cessation services and coverage options among populations experiencing tobacco-related disparities. The Manager will collaborate with team members, under the direction of the Principal Investigator/Program Director, to support focusing direct resources into tailored efforts in both the Black/African American and LGBTQ communities which suffer from health disparities due to menthol and flavored tobacco use. Along with other team members, the manager will work directly with decision makers to increase equitable adoption, implementation and enforcement of PSE changes that reduce the use of menthol and other flavored commercial tobacco products. The manager will serve as a primary point of contact with the funder and lead development of grant-related reports and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, recruit, and mobilize local coalition partners and key volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance and coaching to a wide range of community decision makers and organizations encompassing the policy, system and environmental changes that reduce flavored tobacco use.
  • Ensure communities have access to culturally appropriate resources and information regarding menthol and flavored tobacco products.
  • Lead efforts to ensure equitable adoption and implementation of policy, systems and environmental changes which reduce tobacco use.
  • Develop and ensure progress toward project plans, timelines, and budgets for grant initiatives. Serve as a liaison to funder and ensure compliance with grant requirements and restrictions.
  • Develop regular reports to promote effective program implementation and tracking progress. Submit invoices and requests for payments in a timely manner.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Political Science, Communication, Education, related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of meaningful work experience
  • Successful experience or demonstrated understanding in public health, community organization/mobilization, media/communications, and campaign development and implementation.
  • Experience working in public health policy
  • Experience in project management including budgeting, scheduling, handling to deadlines and reporting out to key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state and federal government activities and structures. Ability to assess the local and state governments related to advocacy issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously handle multiple, sophisticated projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the use of technology and information systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
  • Three years of experience working on development or implementation of tobacco prevention and control interventions
  • Three years of experience in coalition building
