History Teacher (FT):
American Heritage School and Family Education Center helps K-12 students thrive intellectually, spiritually, physically, and socially in the light of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Candidates are invited to read AHS's mission, vision, and values and learn about our curriculum and methods in the school's Foundations Guide.
Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor, and should be willing to uphold the Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement both on and off-campus. The successful candidates must demonstrate interest in AHS's mission in written responses to the questions of this application and in an interview, if invited. Candidates must demonstrate an enduring love of youth, a love of teaching and learning, and a desire to work in a faith-based atmosphere that is aligned with values taught by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Candidates must submit a resume and list of 2-3 professional references, which should include contact information for colleagues or supervisors who will be asked to comment on your professionalism as a teacher. Candidates who do not submit a list of references will not be interviewed.
A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Teacher licensures and graduate degrees are preferred, but are not required.
A minimum of two years of professional experience is preferred. Exceptional candidates with at least one full year of teaching experience and strong recommendations from references will be considered. Candidates without professional teaching experience will not be considered. Special education training is helpful but is not required.
A teaching demonstration is required of top candidates. The demonstration will be held at AHS. The successful candidate will demonstrate warmth and enthusiasm, subject-matter expertise, the ability to help students relate knowledge to their lives through principles that are memorable and widely applicable, pacing that doesn't drag, pedagogical methods that engage students in active reasoning and relating, strong written communication skills, routines that are purposeful and effectively implemented, and a habit of communicating frequently and clearly with parents and colleagues.
The position is available beginning the 2025-26 school year. The teaching location is 142 W. 200 N., Salt Lake City, Utah. Applications will be accepted until February 17, 2025 or the position is filled.
