What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Advocate position at American Indian Community Development Corporation?
The Family Advocate is responsible for implementing services with our family case load through our Families First Program; including supportive services, referrals, education and coordination of services. The Family Advocate will utilize a client centered approach to provide services and identify goal areas in coordination with client input with the intent client/family becomes self-sustainable. Creating a case plan for client/family’s needs & barriers. The Families First program was established to develop and maintain healthy lifestyle choices and life skills to successfully stabilize families with budgeting, educational development, job readiness, and other such development activities. The Family Advocate will maintain intensive contact with the families to track progress and maintain a guide to navigate barriers that clients/familys face. Family Advocate will keep copious records of client/family contacts through Preventive, as well as any other databases needed to perform the task.
Qualifications
• 3-5 years Management experience.
• Experience in chemical dependency/residential housing services with culturally diverse homeless population (preferred).
• Experience in community and information referral services.
• Experience in completing paperwork for county benefits.
• Knowledge of Harm Reduction/Fair Housing First philosophy and commitment to the model.
• Experience in crisis intervention.
• Experience in report building, data collection, & data compiling.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Must pass Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Check.
• Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to quickly assess a crisis and take professional action.
• Ability to work with people from diverse economic, cultural, racial and gender backgrounds. • Must be able to pass MVR check for transportation. (required)
