Job Overview

Join the Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow's Leaders) program at AIFC as a Youth Empowerment Specialist, where you will play a pivotal role in providing culturally specific, holistic, and family-centered support to youth and their families facing various life challenges. This position emphasizes enhancing educational and workforce engagement, empowering youth with the skills and confidence necessary for greater self-sufficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and comply with the established policies and agreements of the Waaban Ogimaawag program and youth services.
  • Actively engage in community outreach, recruitment, and involvement in program activities.
  • Foster collaborations with community agencies to promote an integrated service model.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and members.
  • Participate regularly in departmental and program team meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Services team, AIFC Interdisciplinary team, and other organizations to ensure coordinated care for all youth participants.
  • Organize weekly structured job search sessions and post-secondary exploration events for youth.
  • Facilitate and oversee weekly tutoring and academic support services for youth participants.
  • Serve as a liaison for academic retention and success, connecting youth and families with educational resources.
  • Link youth with community activities and resources.
  • Maintain precise records, including workplan objectives, data tracking, and client evaluations.
  • Collaborate on workplan objectives with the Waaban Ogimaawag Program Youth Services Team.
  • Assist with the training and support of AIFC volunteers and interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of American Indian culture and heritage.
  • Proven ability to cultivate relationships with community organizations and work effectively as a team member.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse populations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to motivate and coordinate the activities of others effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a related field is required.
  • One to three years of relevant program experience, demonstrating sensitivity in working with individuals, families, and youth.
  • Cultural knowledge of the American Indian community is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook products is expected.
  • Valid MN Driver's License, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation are necessary.
  • Submission to a Criminal Background Study is required.
