BUNK COUNSELOR
Bunk Counselors are responsible for the well-being and care of all campers and specifically those in their care. Bunk counselors are accountable for choreographing the logistics of each day at camp, for designing and implementing programs, for participating in staff and Judaic education and for doing whatever is necessary to consistently deliver quality experiences to individual campers. Bunk counselors at Alonim must be high school graduates or the equivalent age.
Responsibilities:
- Wake campers and make sure they are properly dressed (appropriate for weather and in clean clothes), bathed (brush teeth, clean and use bathroom), and on time to flag-raising.
- Monitor meals to be certain that each child is eating, engaged, acting in an appropriate manner, and sharing the serving and busing responsibilities.
- Manage bunk dynamics; make sure that the campers are treating each other well, build a cohesive group, stop scapegoating, etc.
- Organize bunk clean-up, assign responsibilities with a work wheel. Make sure the bunk is clean, beds made, wet things hung up, etc.
- Facilitate campers getting to programs and events on time and in proper attire. When assigned, enthusiastically support staff in programs; actively participate, monitor camper participation and behavior, assist the specialists and avoid private conversations with other staff.
- Plan and implement divisional programming as assigned by the Head Counselor. Confirm that activities meet requirements and reflect the direction of the Head Counselor.
- Help lead activities in a specified specialty area such as sports, art, cooking, music, archery, etc.
- Prepare campers to go to bed. Encourage and expect that they change into appropriate sleepwear, brush their teeth and go to the bathroom. Plan a nightly wind down activity (Numi Numi) that sets a tone for sleeping. Say good night to each child personally and individually. Remain in the bunk until the campers are safely settled down for the evening.
- Serve as shmira (watch duty) on a rotational basis, as assigned by the program director/head counselors. Remain vigilant through the shift.
- Cover the bunk attentively when on duty assigned by rotation. One counselor from each bunk must cover their bunk by the time designated by the head counselors. The other counselor must be in at 2nd counselor curfew, also designated by the head counselors.
- Participate in staff training sessions throughout the summer and attend all staff meetings.
When seeking assistance or help:
- The Head Counselors are the direct supervisors of counselors and an excellent resource. When necessary, the Associate Director is also a resource for the counseling staff.
- The “Camp Parents” are always willing to help. They act as liaisons between concerned parents and campers that are having a hard time. They work very closely with the Camp Director, counselors and head counselors.

Payrange: $2950 - $3205 total for complete summer camp
