Job Overview
The Assistant Principal of an Elementary School supports the Principal as the Instructional Leader and will use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to assist in all matters pertaining to the implementation of American Leadership Academy’s Academic Plan, the safe operation of the school, and public relationships. This position assumes all responsibilities of the building operation during the principal’s absence.
Responsibilities
- Ensures that every teacher is getting one year of education gain for a year of time in the classroom for each student.
- Partners with parents to ensure students are getting the reading support required to be successful.
- Establishes high and measurable expectations for all students and educators which are monitored with data.
- Facilitate a process of creating a shared vision, mission, and goals that aligns with the ALA’s Academic Plan.
- Develop and sustain a school focused on teaching and learning.
- Ensure a strong professional culture that supports student achievement through the Response-to-Intervention (RTI) Framework of evidence based practices.
- Support the implementation of Common Core State Standards and the Utah Core Curriculum using school adopted materials with fidelity.
- Ensure that instruction meets the diverse learning needs of all children.
- Use a variety of information and data to evaluate student learning, effective teaching, and program quality.
- Develop the consistent implementation of the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS).
- Protect the well-being and safety of students and staff.
- Conduct personnel evaluations that develop and improve professional practice.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, parents, community members, and respond to diverse community interests.
- Act with, and ensure a system of integrity, fairness, equity, and ethical behavior.
- Demonstrate appropriate, ethical, and legal behavior including compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and FERPA.
- Work with the Principal in guiding Professional Learning Communities.
- Oversee all support instructional aides.
- Create a schedule to effectively utilize all support staff.
- Facilitate in employee training and professional development for staff.
- Supervise elementary in school specials and extracurricular activities.
- Establish priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and align with the school budget provided by the business administrator.
- Recruit, interview and make recommendations for staff for employment.
- Manage and secure facilities on a daily basis to ensure safety to students and staff.
- Oversee school carpool.
- Maintain relationships with parents, parent groups and school volunteers.
- Continual monitoring of student achievement.
- Instructional and curricular leadership development.
- Support and enforce the Employee Handbook and all school policies.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
- Assist with safety inspection and safety drills.
- Comply with Federal and State laws and Utah State Board of Education Rule and Board Policy.
- Perform classroom observations and conferences with teachers to improve instruction.
- Assist the principal in performance evaluation of all staff assigned to the elementary.
- Serve as principal in the absence of school principal.
- Assist in evaluating the elementary curriculum and instructional programs.
- Advocate and work to increase student enrollment.
- Assist in the supervision of, and participation in, elementary evening and weekend school sponsored activities, and special meetings to include Board, and Community support meetings, and parent workshops.
- Counsel students and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
- Serve as a resource to staff about classroom management issues.
- Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations.
- Assist in developing programs to promote positive student recognition as well as intervention strategies.
- Apply appropriate consequences for behavior and attendance issues.
- Do all required student behavior reporting to the Utah State Board of Education.
- Assist in the supervision of students before, during and after the school day.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Education Administration or related field preferred.
- At least three years of experience
- A valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah
- Skills in negotiation and conflict resolution
- Excellent skills in strategic planning and decision-making
- Experience supervising staff and coordinating student services
- Proven experience working with students in an educational setting.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire staff and students.
- Excellent public speaking skills for effective communication with diverse audiences.
- Experience in classroom management and instructional strategies.
- Knowledge of curriculum development processes and best practices.
- Ability to develop strategic plans that enhance educational outcomes.

Pay: $74,000.00 - $118,000.00 per year
