Position Summary:
The Lounge Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the bar and grill at the American Legion, ensuring a welcoming, efficient, and high-quality experience for members and guests. This role includes managing the kitchen and bar staff, ordering supplies, handling financial transactions, coordinating catering services, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The manager will work closely with the house committee to develop special events, menu offerings, and cater for private functions, creating a lively, friendly atmosphere for all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management
- Supervise daily operations of the bar and grill, ensuring smooth and efficient service during operating hours.
- Oversee kitchen and bar staff, ensuring adherence to company policies, food safety regulations, and customer service standards.
- Train and develop staff, conduct performance evaluations and managing scheduling and payroll.
- Monitor food and beverage quality and presentation, ensuring consistent standards.
- Handle customer complaints or concerns promptly and professionally to ensure satisfaction.
- Catering and Event Planning
- Coordinate and manage catering services for internal events, private parties, and special functions hosted by the American Legion.
- Collaborate with event coordinators to create customized catering menus based on client needs and budget.
- Ensure all catering orders are fulfilled on time and within specifications, while maintaining quality standards.
- Assist in promoting the catering services to members and the local community, increasing business opportunities.
- Financial and Inventory Management
- Oversee the budget for bar and grill operations, including managing cost controls for food, beverages, and supplies.
- Track sales, monitor expenses, and implement strategies to meet financial goals and maximize profitability.
- Order and maintain inventory for the kitchen and bar, ensuring that stock levels are appropriate, and minimizing waste.
- Ensure cash handling procedures are followed and oversee financial transactions, including end-of-day cash-out and reporting.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health regulations, including proper food handling and sanitation practices.
- Monitor bar service to prevent over-service and ensure adherence to alcohol laws and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for staff and guests.
- Holds a Minnesota Food & Liquor Safety Certification, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of start.
- Customer Experience and Member Engagement
- Create and foster a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere for members, veterans, and guests.
- Plan and execute special events, promotions, and themed nights to drive customer engagement and attendance.
- Maintain a positive and respectful relationship with American Legion members, encouraging feedback and suggestions to improve the experience.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in restaurant, bar, or catering management, preferably in a similar setting (bar and grill, catering, or non-profit environment).
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of food safety standards, alcohol laws, and health regulations.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills with a focus on detail.
- Proficiency in basic financial management, including budgeting and inventory control.
- Ability to fully utilize the technology available to manage inventory, sales, employees and operations. Technology includes, but is not limited to, the installed Point of Sale system, social media, MS Office, email, and the internet.
- Previous experience with catering and event management is a plus.
- The ability to pass a criminal background check (offer of employment would be made contingent upon the results).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during shifts.
- Comfortable working in a busy, loud environment during peak times.
