The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Coordinator, Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotion & Education department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. \

Provide support in the implementation of Addressing the Burden of Childhood Asthma in New York State grant, including evidence-based strategies to expand the quality and availability of guidelines-based asthma control services in New York. Efforts aimed at improving asthma-related health outcomes and quality of life among children with asthma and their families/caregivers across New York’s highest asthma burden areas will be driven by the strategies outlined in the Center for Disease Control (CDC) National Asthma Control Program’s EXHALE Technical Package. This is a 100% grant-funded position serving the State of New York, focusing primarily Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx.

Location: The position is located at the American Lung Association’s New York, New York office and will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the implementation of the New York State Addressing the Burden of Asthma in New York State, including Project BREATHE NY.
  • Support collaboration with New York State Department of Health, home-based organizations, Health Systems, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with scheduling and delivery of training and technical assistance with the Project BREATHE NY initiative, including ordering and compiling materials, maintaining material inventory, and corresponding with partners.
  • Assist partners with tasks including but not limited to data collection and entry, identifying educational tools, creating asthma self-management education PPT presentations, and ordering project supplies.
  • Assist with evaluation activities including tracking and entering monthly data entry into data collection platform and creating summary progress reports.
  • Coordinate purchase and preparation of materials for training programs and approved home-based asthma friendly products.
  • Code and enter invoices into Association’s invoice system. Enter expenses and maintain grant expense tracking form.
  • Assist with statewide communications, including social media, maintaining grant website, email lists, and newsletters.
  • Create various forms for the purpose of tracking materials, spending and other grant activities.
  • Represent the Association as a member of community, civic, and/or health coalitions and organizations related to the Association’s mission.
  • Build, maintain, and cultivate relationships with funders, facilitators, and community partners to encourage program delivery, sustainability, and growth across service territory, including American Lung Association programs where applicable.
  • Select and participate in local, state, and national seminars and courses designed to increase skills and knowledge related to job requirements.
  • Participate in and support all area events and provide support for annual report, awards, grants, and other activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public health or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience preferred.
  • Prior experience developing and implementing community awareness, education, and programs specifically related to areas of public health.
  • Prior experience creating social media posts and media campaigns.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 60% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required.
  • Able to work with minimum direct supervision, make decisions, and take initiative.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint and Internet applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace, all employees must abstain from use tobacco in any form, including vaping.

Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $46,500 and $51,000 per annum.

  • Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year. We also offer Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees.
  • Insurance - Employees (and their eligible dependents) can enroll in our medical, dental, and vision plans, as well as voluntary plans for critical illness, accident, hospital indemnity, short-term disability and supplemental life/AD&D insurance. Employees will be enrolled in company-paid life/AD&D and long-term disability Insurance coverage.
  • Retirement Plan - Eligible employees can participate in our 401(k) Defined Contribution Retirement Plan, which offers matching employer contributions (up to 4%) and year-end discretionary non-elective contributions.
