Shellfish Farmer

American Mussel Harvesters is currently looking for a full-time worker to join our shellfish growing operation. We have a job available on our oyster and kelp farming boats that service our shellfish leases in Narragansett Bay. Both boats work out of the State Pier in Newport. We are looking to hire one crew member to work full time year-round starting immediately. In this position you will learn the various skills that it takes to work on the water, be connected to the international aquaculture community, and work on the largest shellfish farm in Rhode Island. Operating our equipment will give you valuable job experience which is hard to find anywhere else. Pay starts at $20/hour.

• Job tasks vary on the day/season but include every aspect of bringing shellfish from seed to market. The candidate will be trained in all tasks.

• Must have reliable transportation.

• Must be willing to work, we are mechanized but there is still labor involved.

• Must be able to lift fifty to eighty pounds repeatedly.

• Hours are 6am to 3pm with a one-hour break.

• Must s up on time every day ready to work.

• Sometimes we will be working at our shop in Quonset, North Kingstown other days we work out of state pier in Newport.

• Must be willing to work in all-weather elements.

• Looking to hire and train someone who will eventually run boats and move upward in the company.

• Skills that will be learned are knot tying, safe fork truck operation, safe crane operation, operating the company 26’ box truck, operating boats.
