American National is hiring for a full-time, Director, Investment Accounting & Reporting team member to oversee the accounting and reporting for the company’s investments under U.S. Statutory and GAAP standards. You will deliver critical maintenance of internal controls, support audits, and provide strategic insight to enhance new investment strategies, and regulatory compliance. The skills you will need to be successful in the position include, GAAP and Statutory knowledge within an insurance company, investment accounting, financial reporting, auditing experience, and formal leadership.

What you will do:
- Lead a team of investment accounting professionals
- Responsible for the accounting oversight and reporting for the company’s invested assets, maintaining records on both U.S. Statutory and GAAP
- Oversee and manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting close and reporting for investment accounting
- Manage and produce investment reporting schedules and disclosures for the STAT and GAAP quarterly and annual statements
- Oversee timely and accurate reconciliations of investment accounts, as well as the analysis and documentation of investment-related general ledger, income statement, and balance sheet accounts
- Coordinate and maintain strong relationships with internal asset managers and third-party accounting service provider(s)
- Collaborate with third-party administrators and asset managers to investigate and resolve discrepancies, escalating issues to management when necessary
- Serve as the SOX control owner for investment accounting processes, ensuring all policies, procedures, and controls are well-documented
- Support internal controls and audit teams during test work
- Collaborate with internal teams to provide strategic recommendations for investment accounting activities, offering solutions for new investment strategies, accounting requirements, and operational changes, with a focus on internal controls and regulatory compliance
- Apply performance management practices, including continuous conversation to evaluate employee performance
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- Professional insurance industry work experience in one or more of the following areas: investment accounting, financial reporting, auditing
- Formal leadership role where you led a team of accounting professionals
- GAAP and statutory accounting for insurance company general account portfolios (Preferred)
- CPA, CFA, and/or MBA (Preferred)
- Proficiency in Excel
- Some travel required (less than 10%)
- Must be available to work hours outside of normal business operations, during peak periods
- Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting knowledge for fixed income investments, mortgage loans, and real estate
- Experience with SAP financial systems, investment software preferred (i.e., PAM, Aladdin, Clearwater, CAMRA)
- Ability to prioritize, manage time well, meet critical deadlines, and work well under pressure
- Ability to collaborate with other teams, challenging current processes and driving efficiencies
