What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at American National University?
Position Summary: The Academic Advisor will assist the Vice President of Student Services in implementing programs and activities to recognize and show appreciation for student’s achievements and successes, support activities related to continuing student registration, and lead the process for withdrawn students to re-enter into the program of study and successfully move toward graduation.
Advisor Roles:
· Advisors will meet weekly in the continuing student review meet with the Academic Program Chairs to review all students: Active student, SAP students, LDA students, Graduate Student, other student concerns. The Academic Advisor manages this meeting.
· Academic Advisors assist in the interviewing process.
· Academic Advisors assist in overseeing the Daily LDA report. Contact of these students begins with students who have been out of attendance for 7 or more dates.
· Ensures all unofficial and official withdrawals are processed timely.
· Maintains graduation dates.
Student Retention
· Manages and monitors attendance for all students
· Develops and distributes daily reports of student absences (continuing student review).
· Enters all student communications into Contact Manager section of Anthology.
· Communicates effectively with Program/Department Chairs/Vice President of Student Services and faculty regarding student engagement and outreach.
· Maintains primary responsibility for achieving student re-entry targets.
· Manages the outreach of Applicant and Future Start students to ensure the student is aware of how to access the student portal, orientation courses, placement courses and future term classes.
Academic Records
· Maintains and updates student academic records including, but not limited to, master student files, grade cards, attendance records, transcripts, and schedules to track and report accurate academic progress and achievements.
· Provides oversight and ensures that instructors submit final grades as needed for grade changes.
· Owns responsibility for the completion of all requests for transcripts on a timely basis
· Ensures all academic records including, but not limited to, master student files, grade cards, attendance records, transcripts, and schedules are accurate
Administration
· Interacts with other departments/staff in a cooperative and professional manner
· Creates, maintains and utilizes Anthology related to assigned areas of responsibilities
· Prepares and submits reports on a timely basis
Regulatory Compliance
· Assists other departments in the preparation and revisions of the Colleges manuals, regulatory applications and catalogs in order to provide accurate and current information for the College’s operations.
Job Requirements
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred. Must be bi-lingual with Spanish.
· Experience: Experience working with students in an academic setting. Experience in program planning and implementation.

Physical and Mental Requirements
· Physical Requirements: This job requires normal physical mobility, including the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Normal hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and lift up to 40 pounds, is also required.
· Mental Requirements: This job requires the ability to read, recall, write and understand information. This job also requires the ability to work under moderate pressure and to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
