Essential Functions
- Evaluates and assesses risk on applications, renewals, and reinstatements and make decisions as to whether a risk is acceptable under the given terms and provides a reasonable opportunity to perform profitably.
- Reviews appeals and declinations.
- Handles co-signs/referrals and mentors new underwriters.
- Assesses alternative ways to make a risk acceptable independently and will often mentor other UW levels on advanced or complex risks.
- Serves as the underwriting representative for the region and fills in for the Manager when requested.
- Reviews, resolves, corrects, and re-inputs all systems errors or omissions prior to the next daily run.
- Monitors and reviews Workflow Management reports. Ability to detect problems and make recommendations for correction. Report findings to Management.
- Educates, coaches, and trains agents on underwriting procedures, philosophy, and new products.
- Associate degree.
- Six to eight years of experience.
- Supervisory/management experience not applicable.
- Additional Qualifications:
- Experience mentoring or coaching less experienced underwriters.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required. Equivalent experience considered in place of collegiate studies.
- Some P&C industry and/or Farming or Commercial industry knowledge.
- CPCU certification.
- Applicable designation strongly preferred, or progress towards.
- The position requires ability to effectively communicate with others to exchange information.
- A person in this position establishes methods and procedures for attaining specific goals and objectives, and receives guidance in terms of broad goals. Only the final results of work are typically reviewed.
- The position requires physical presence in company office on part-time or full-time basis.
- This position is an Individual Contributor.
