Job Description:
The Network Cable Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of network infrastructure in a mission-critical data center environment. This role involves running, terminating, and managing network cables (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber, etc.), supporting network pre-compression and design, and ensuring proper cable routing and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Ethernet, fiber optic, and other network cables.
- Perform rack and stack installations of networking equipment, including routers, switches, and servers.
- Maintain cable management systems and follow structured cabling standards.
- Assist with network decommissioning and removal of outdated cabling and equipment.
- Follow ITIL Change Control processes for service requests and incident handling.
- Support power cycling, troubleshooting, and break-fix issues under supervision.
- Maintain accurate cabling documentation, floor plans, and equipment inventory.
- Ensure compliance with security protocols (ISO, SAS70, SOX) for data center operations.
- Assist in data center administration and facility maintenance as needed.
- Climb ladders, lift equipment, and work in raised floor environments to install and maintain infrastructure.
Requirements:
- Experience with network cabling installation, structured cabling, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of networking hardware, infrastructure design, and ITIL practices.
- Ability to climb ladders, lift heavy equipment, and work in high-density environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to follow technical instructions.
- Experience in a data center or large-scale IT infrastructure environment is a plus.
