As a Junior Packaging Design Engineer, you will play a key role in creating and developing innovative packaging solutions using a variety of polyurethane and polyethylene foams. In addition to developing packaging solutions, you will contribute to the manufacturing process by applying your design skills to quality control (QC) foam products on the production lines. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both packaging design and manufacturing at our high-mix, low-volume foam packaging manufacturing center in Hayward, CA.
Responsibilities:
• Design packaging structures using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
• Research, test, and select suitable materials based on factors such as product fragility, weight, and environmental considerations.
• Develop prototypes of foam packaging designs and conduct tests to assess their performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging aligns with the overall product vision, brand identity, and production capabilities.
• Optimize costs by developing packaging solutions that balance cost-effectiveness with quality and performance requirements.
• Create technical drawings, specifications, and documentation to convey packaging design details to the manufacturing team.
Perform first article inspections (FAI’s) and complete reports on all new foam products being manufactured, ensuring they meet all specifications.
• Perform quality control (QC) on foam products being manufactured, ensuring they meet design specifications.
• Take on additional responsibilities in foam packaging design under the guidance and supervision of the Design Department Manager.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in packaging or equivalent.
1 to 2 years’ experience in packaging design and creating sustainable packaging products (Preferred).
Familiarity with different packaging materials.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in MS Office/ G-Suite/ Autocad (CAD).
Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
