HOURS:  Full-Time averaging 40 hours per week,

Job Purpose: 

The Project Manager- Assets and Infrastructure is responsible for the management of projects across a vast portfolio that spans over 400,000 acres and includes 50 buildings, multiple campgrounds, and other related facilities. This Lewistown- based role requires a balance of field based hands on management, strategic planning, and coordination to maintain and enhance the functionality, safety, and sustainability of American Prairie’s assets. 

 

This role is responsible for assisting in the development and leading execution of asset maintenance plans, infrastructure upgrades, and capital projects, ensuring that all work aligns with organizational goals and safety standards. This role will require frequent travel across the Reserve to conduct site assessments, supervise on-site activities, and liaise with team members and contractors. 

 

60% Project, Maintenance Program and Staff Management 

  • In collaboration with the VP of Public Access and Infrastructure, develop detailed project plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. 
  • Oversee the end-to-end execution of projects. Assign and manage work schedules, projects and duties of staff.
  • Train staff and evaluate work to ensure accurate, quality completion.
  • Provide performance management including regular feedback and direction.
  • Ensure adequate daily oversight of field technicians is completed by the Program Specialist - Access and Infrastructure.
  • Adhere to, train, and enforce safety standards and protocols including use of protective equipment, safe practices and report damage, safety concerns, and injuries.
  • Responsible for interviewing, orientation, and training of staff.
  • Implement asset management and maintenance strategies to extend the life cycle of infrastructure assets. 
  • Complete annual assessments of buildings and create a prioritized list of maintenance needs with deadlines for completion; 
  • In collaboration with the VP of Public Access and Infrastructure, identify when a contract specialist is needed and coordinate to outsource work.
  • Ensure accurate records of preventative maintenance, work orders, completed expenditures and property status using database and project management software (Salesforce and Wrike).
  • Ensure adequate inventory and organization of parts and materials to handle most common repairs and situations. 
  • Plan landscaping work around facilities and campgrounds including lawn maintenance, fencing, snow removal and sign repair.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are in good condition including regular inspection and performance of routine preventative maintenance and repairs.  
  • Prepare and manage project budgets. 
  • Manage construction and maintenance of structures including buildings, bridges, campgrounds and stationary equipment. 
  • Manage maintenance, repairs and related record keeping for all vehicles, heavy equipment, ATVs, and other rolling stock.
  • Manage basic plumbing and basic electrical projects including appliances, HVAC, plumbing fixtures & generators. 
  • Transport goods and materials to and from the field including purchasing supplies, trailering vehicles/equipment, and waste removal.
  • Maintain wells, water lines and septic systems. Coordinate and supervise contractors for major repairs.

 

40% Contractor Management

  • Cultivate and maintain a list of dependable regional contractors in each of the building trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, well-drilling/maintenance, carpentry, general contractors)
  • Manage contractors to complete routine maintenance on buildings and rolling stock (vehicles, ATV’s, side-by-sides, backhoes, skidsteers, tractors)
  • Manage contractors on building and renovation projects

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Enthusiasm for and positive representation of American Prairie’s mission, values, goals, and culture.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a project manager with a proven track record of completing projects on time with given budget.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experienced managing teams with a track record of high performance and job satisfaction.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to identify and address project challenges effectively.  
  • Extensive experience working with trade contractors (i.e., construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water/septic, vehicle repairs).
  • Apply technology skills to manage communications, data and documents using a smartphone and laptop. Required applications include Esri tools, Gmail, Box, project management and reservation software.
  • Demonstrate a proactive and motivated work ethic with ability to work quickly and efficiently to complete tasks and responsibilities with appropriate prioritization and ability to stay within a budget.
  • Commitment to excellence and high-quality results with focus on safety standards and adherence to policies and practices including appropriate use of safety and protective equipment.
  • Demonstrated confidence and adaptability.
  • Ability to use maintenance tools and equipment such as hand tools and power tools.  
  • Ability to physically exert self, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds - more pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand, squat, kneel, bend, stoop, reach, and work from a ladder.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive trucks, tractors, skid steer, trailers, and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Ability to drive long distances alone in remote areas and navigate unmaintained or potentially hazardous dangerous 2-tracks and roads in varied conditions such as mud, ice and snow.
  • Ability to work varied or long hours, on-call hours, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, construction management, or related field. 
  • Extensive working trade experience (i.e., construction, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, water/septic, vehicle repairs).
