Payroll Manager
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, this position is responsible for overseeing and supervising the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
Location:
This position is based in Louisville, Kentucky and allows for a hybrid work schedule.
Compensation and Benefits
$70,000.00/year – $87,000.00/year | Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

Essential Duties and Tasks
- Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Manage and develop staff.
- Interpret, provide guidance, and train employees, managers, and staff on payroll, timecards and absence functions, and related policies and procedures on how to report changes when needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Review and reconcile 401(k) download file.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors, both internal and external.
- Create, update, and maintain payroll policies and procedures.
- Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing software and systems.
- Serve as liaison to other team members, including interacting with managers of different areas of the organization, presenting findings to stakeholders and higher management.
- Prepares quarterly, yearly, monthly reports as needed.
- Manage and verify employee time off balances are calculated correctly.
- Direct the resolution of complex issues or errors.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications – Experience – Training
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field. Bachelor's degree is valued.
- 5 years’ related experience.
A combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted when competency in the role is demonstrated. Reasonable accommodation may be provided for those who are able to perform the essential duties of the job.
Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working, verifiable, and demonstrable knowledge of automated payroll systems – Paycom preferred.
- Advanced computer skills and proficiency with ERPs, and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a business office setting within a facility with a production and distribution center.
