About the Company
We specialize in designing and engineering biomass-based plants, ethanol plants, and biorefineries. Our projects integrate sustainable energy solutions with advanced engineering design. The E&I scope of these projects is subcontracted, and we are seeking an experienced E&I Engineer to supervise subcontractors, ensure compliance with company workflows, and perform quality control (QC) on all subcontractor deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
The in-house E&I Engineer will be responsible for supervising subcontractors and ensuring the quality of electrical and instrumentation design and engineering work, covering the following areas:
Electrical Engineering Responsibilities
- Supervise and QC subcontractor deliverables for electrical engineering, including:
- Electrical design criteria
- One-line diagrams
- Motor lists
- Lighting plans
- Heat tracing designs
- Transformer & Motor Control Center (MCC) sizing and datasheets
- Motor elementary diagrams
- Electrical room layout & HVAC sizing
- Cable schedules and routing
- MCC single-line diagrams
- Grounding plans & lightning protection design
- Instrument power panel design
- Load flow studies & fault calculations
- Breaker coordination & arc flash studies
- Electrical contractor bid package preparation & bid analysis
Instrumentation Engineering Responsibilities
- Supervise and QC subcontractor deliverables for instrumentation engineering, including:
- Instrument construction specifications
- Instrument technical specifications
- Distributed Control System (DCS) specifications
- I/O cabinet specifications
- Process control design criteria
- I/O lists & control system architecture diagrams
- Instrument datasheets & vendor quote reviews
- DCS/Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) panel design & I/O rack loading drawings
- Instrument construction details
- Loop sheets & termination drawings
- Instrument cable schedules and routing
- Instrument power panel drawings
- DCS Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Customer Acceptance Test (CAT), and Site Acceptance Test (SAT)
- Preparation of instrumentation contractor bid packages & bid analysis
General Responsibilities
- Ensure subcontractor work aligns with company workflow, project scope, and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, ISA, and OSHA standards.
- Work closely with process, mechanical, and automation engineers to integrate E&I systems into overall plant design.
- Participate in electrical and instrumentation contractor selection, bid evaluation, and contract award process.
- Travel once per month to job sites for inspections, reviews, and on-site coordination.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in industrial E&I engineering.
- Strong experience in supervising subcontractors and performing QC on E&I design deliverables.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, ISA, and industrial power distribution systems.
- Experience in DCS/PLC system design, instrument selection, and control system integration.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, SKM, or similar design software.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting with periodic travel.
Preferred:
- PE (Professional Engineer) license or ISA certification.
- Experience in biorefineries, ethanol plants, or biomass-based projects.
- Strong knowledge of IIoT and Industry 4.0 applications in industrial electrical and control systems.
- Familiarity with HMI/SCADA and automation integration.
