After close to a century as separate institutions, the Holden Arboretum and Cleveland Botanical Garden integrated to form Holden Forests & Gardens (HF&G) in 2014. As HF&G, the organization was restructured as a single management team in 2018, and all human, financial, programmatic assets, and collections were combined to create a dynamic and impactful plant museum spanning multiple campuses and serving the people of northeast Ohio and beyond.
Holden Forests & Gardens is one of the largest public gardens in the United States, offering distinct arboretum and botanical garden experiences for the public along with a private plant breeding research site.
The Chief of Plants and Science will lead and integrate the horticultural and scientific initiatives at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Holden Arboretum, and Leach Research Station, driving the quality and growth of HF&G's horticulture, living collections, research, community forestry, and conservation programs.
The Chief of Plants and Science will be a strategic and dynamic individual who can create and drive measurable goals and organizational health. The candidate should be skilled at leading change and supporting a culture of accountability. They will represent HF&G at local and national meetings, lead tours, and serve as a spokesperson regarding plant collections, horticulture, arboriculture, science, and conservation.
Minimum Requirements :
A master's degree in horticulture, ecology, botany, or a related plant science field from an accredited university, and 8 years of experience in horticultural, ecological, or conservation research with at least 5 years of management experience. A Ph.D. degree is desirable.
Supervisory experience in public gardens or a similar organization is preferred.

The compensation range for this position is between $170,000 – $190,000 annually. HF&G offers generous health insurance, retirement, PTO, and other benefits.
