We need more people to give their time to neighbors who suddenly need help. When families are left scrambling during disasters, our American Red Cross teams are determined to help them get through the night, then take the first steps toward recovery. That work involves coordination among many volunteers who pull together the necessary resources to respond to an emergency and follow-up for support.
Position Disaster Action Team Member (IN-PERSON RESPONSE)
Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring those affected have access to food, shelter, and clothing.
Key Roles
Sign up for on-call shift each month, standing by to respond to emergencies.

- Respond to fires, floods, or other emergency events.
- Connect with affected families/individuals and assess their needs. Then, report back to team.
- Enter client information into online portal.
- Complete and regularly update Red Cross provided training.

Requirements
- Must be 18-years of age with a valid driver’s license.
- Comfort with computers/tablets is necessary.
- Compassion and patience working with individuals affected by disaster.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and make decisions in a stressful environment.
- Ability to work in challenging conditions such as poor air quality, uneven ground, and adverse weather.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Fluency with computer systems and mobile devices.
