Position Summary: The EHS Specialist at American Refrigeration LLC assists the Safety Director in developing, implementing, and maintaining Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. This role supports the Safety Director in promoting a strong safety culture across all company operations, including industrial refrigeration environments, customer job sites, and construction sites.
Essential Functions: Key responsibilities include assisting with risk assessments, safety audits, incident investigations, and regulatory reporting. The EHS Specialist also develops and delivers training on various safety topics, such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, fall protection, and job-specific safety procedures. Additionally, this role supports the coordination of safety training programs, updates policies, and implements compliance initiatives to enhance workplace safety. The position requires collaboration with employees, contractors, and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in EHS practices and maintain a safe working environment across all job sites. The EHS Specialist will also assist in managing ISNetworld, Avetta, and other contractor and supplier information management platforms to ensure all safety documentation and compliance data are current and accurate. This includes supporting the qualification and management of contractor safety information.
Environmental Health & Safety
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
Location:
Jacksonville, FL. If the candidate resides outside of the Jacksonville area, remote work may be considered, with up to 50% travel to job sites across multiple states and cities as necessary.
Travel
The EHS Specialist will be required to travel up to 50% of the time to various job sites, including industrial refrigeration environments, customer locations, and construction sites, across multiple states and cities, to ensure safety compliance and support on-site safety initiatives. A valid driver's license is required to fulfill the travel and transportation needs of the position.

- Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory agencies' requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, providing recommendations for corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs on topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response, fall protection, and job-specific safety procedures.
- Coordinate safety training programs to ensure employees and contractors are trained on company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Review and update company safety policies to ensure they align with current regulatory standards and best practices.
- Assist in developing and implementing compliance initiatives to improve safety performance and reduce risk across all job sites.
- Collaborate with employees, contractors, and external stakeholders to promote continuous improvement in EHS practices and maintain a safe working environment.
- Manage ISNetworld, Avetta, and other contractor and supplier information management platforms, ensuring safety documentation and compliance data are up to date.
- Support the qualification and management of contractor safety information to ensure contractors meet company safety standards.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and ensure that safety documentation is accurate and complete for audits and inspections.
- Assist in performing health studies, including hearing conservation and ergonomics assessments, to identify and mitigate potential health hazards in the workplace.
- Manage and maintain records, including OSHA recordkeeping, injury management following incidents, and training records on the HSI EHS Management platform.
- Conduct comprehensive facility inspections at American Refrigeration locations to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and standards.
- Climbing ladders: Ability to safely climb and descend ladders to access elevated areas for inspections, audits, or training.
- Lifting and moving objects: Ability to lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. to assist with safety equipment, materials, or tools required for inspections, training, or fieldwork.
- Standing for extended periods: Ability to stand for long durations during inspections, training sessions, or meetings without discomfort or fatigue.
- Walking and bending: Regular walking, bending, or stooping while inspecting job sites, reviewing safety protocols, or conducting audits.
- Environmental awareness: Ability to navigate work environments, including industrial, construction, or refrigeration areas with potential hazards, and work in hot and cold environments without climate control, including entering freezers with negative temperatures, while ensuring safety and comfort.
- 3-5 years of field experience in EHS programs and safety management, with expertise in regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, injury prevention, and environmental management.
- Strong understanding of safety standards and regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, PSM, and industry-specific guidelines.
- Technical expertise in areas such as fall protection, ammonia process safety management, rigging, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and arc flash exposures in live environments.
- Experience in safety training and compliance programs, including ISNetworld, Avetta, and other safety documentation platforms, as well as managing training portals such as Convergence LMS and EHS management platforms like HSI to track, manage, and report safety training and compliance.
- Preferred qualifications: OHST, CHST, CIT, SMP, STCS, or equivalent certifications, along with OSHA 30-HR for construction or general industry, and First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, ensuring effective implementation and maintenance of safety programs across all job sites.
- Knowledge of HAZWOPER regulations and procedures to ensure compliance in hazardous environments.
