Overview

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group, Inc. (ARC) is seeking an experience candidate for a Port Engineer opportunity. Port Engineer will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the maintenance, repair and safe operations of all the engineering needs for assigned vessels and equipment.

 

About ARC 

ARC provides global logistics and shipping services to the U.S. Government. ARC and its affiliates own and manage the largest U.S. flag roll-on roll-off (Ro-Ro) fleet. This includes providing American-owned, managed, and crewed RoRo shipping and intermodal services committed to the requirements of the Department of Defense, other U.S. Government departments and agencies, and commercial customers.

Job Description

The Port Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and safe operation of assigned vessels and equipment. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, manages contractors, and collaborates with vessel leadership to maintain operational readiness.

 

In this role as Port Engineer you will:  

  • Develop repair specifications and manage the repair of the vessels by overseeing all activities directly related to the repairs.
  • Liaison with the vessel Chief Engineer/Captain on required maintenance needs.
  • Manage and negotiate contractor selection, contract management and contractors work by setting up service to vessels, ensuring regulatory inspections are scheduled timely and controlling expenditures within designated projects.
  • Monitor and coordinate vessel certification inspections with external and internal customers.
  • Regularly attend vessels during times of out of service or dry-docking. Work with warehouse personnel requesting fleet spare equipment be dispatched to support the upkeep of the vessels.
  • Create PO’s/WO’s, review and close outstanding maintenance jobs, review/approve requisitions, and review vessel reports.
  • Work with buyer to assist in the purchasing of supplies. Complete proof of work performed, make adjustments and update financial information to allow for payment matching to the invoice.
  • Develop maintenance and repair cost analysis sheets and monitor the budget.
  • Assist in the development and modification of preventative maintenance plans for vessel equipment.

Job Requirements

 

Your experience and background include:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Maritime Academy in Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture.
  • USCG 1st or Chief Engineer’s License, Unlimited Horsepower.
  • 5 years sailing Tankers, Bulkers,Ro/Ro, and/or Cruise.
  • Must have management experience.
  • 3 years shoreside experience (i.e. Port Engineer/Fleet Engineer, Technical Superintendent, Technical Manager, Technical Director or similar).
  • Experience liaising with Class Societies and regulatory bodies; IMO/ILO/Flag State/Port State/USCG.
  • Travel up to 30% including extended periods for drydocks.
