POSITION SUMMARY: Plans, organizes, and directs technical work related to product engineering activities. The Project Engineer will function as a part of a team for product engineering initiatives, working with multi-disciplined team activities to achieve desired program objectives and launch targets. Drives the team toward end goals.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs engineering product design on transportation seating to meet customer specifications.
- Works with multi-disciplined team activities to achieve desired program objectives and launch targets.
- Establishes and tracks project schedules and open issues for assigned projects.
- Communicates project risks and makes recommendations to executive management in a timely manner.
- Assures that new product projects follow the New Product Development (NPD) process and Engineering Release Notice (ERN) procedure.
- Works with Industrial Designers to accommodate aesthetic and functional concepts into final product designs, and engineers the designs to meet project scope requirements. Concepts may come from internal or external designers.
- Prepares 3D CAD and detail drawing documents for proper dimensioning with appropriate tooling and proper engineering layout.
- Establishes and maintains engineering documentation for all projects.
- Provides technical direction and support for assigned projects. Performs Finite Element Analysis (FEA), defines test simulations and performs hand calculations as required.
- Designs adaptations of existing components to match project requirements or alter product features and options.
- Works individually and in a team with manufacturing, tooling, manufacturing engineering, and product engineering to evaluate standard part design for cost and functional improvements.
- Communicates with customers to determine product needs.
- Follows proper cost constraints in the design process. Estimates and manages project capital.
- Research new technologies and materials and provides problem resolution when necessary.
- Provides technical engineering support and supervision to drafting personnel in a project-based environment.
- Runs product qualification testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Bachelor's degree in a technology program is also acceptable.
- 5 years of experience as a Product Engineer, Project Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer.
- 3 years of project management experience.
- Experience designing plastic, stainless steel, sheet metal and aluminum components.
- Experience with machine controls and wire diagrams is a plus.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic experience is a plus.
- CAD proficient, preferably in SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to demonstrate application of engineering theory in product design.
- Ability to work effectively with outside resources, OEM Staff, and Transit Property Staff.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Team oriented.
- Innovative and self-motivated.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project.
